Default Alonso to race at Indy 500 in place of Monaco

I think this is great news for IndyCar and F1 fans

he will be in a Honda powered Andretti car.

I just woke up to these news this morning! I had to double check that it wasn't April 1, LOL. I would have thought his first stint outside of F1 would be a P1 car at the 24 hours of Le Mans. Maybe the schedule won't allow it.

I'm surprised he's missing Monaco, but he's been stuck with a non competitive ride. He should do well. He'll have two weeks to practice.

This "pass" to compete at Indy may be a bone for Alonso since he's been totally frustrated with the McClaren F1 car.

Better to have him chasing his dream in Indy than kicking the sidepods in public at Monaco

I want JB to take the Indy seat after Alonso.

Wow! I'm shocked by this news. I wish he was doing a road race too. I'd like to see how some of the top indycar drivers stack up with him in similar equipment.

there are whispers of a potential full season entry into the series. If that happens then JB should be a good candidate for them.

they are also speaking of a future endurance racing entry. Alonso may end up with an opportunity there as well. But if Honda improves I think both he and the team would prefer he just stick to F1.

They're talking about a seat for him at LeMans, maybe Porsche. That would be great!
