Hello everyone,
I wanted to start off by saying how much I love these build threads. I love watching the transformation take place.
I want to contribute.
My first S2000 was a MY01 that I stumbled upon during a traffic detour in early 2004. I had an EG hatch in the early 2000s and loved it and always admired the S2000. At the time though, I wasn't actually looking for a car let alone an S2000. Nor did I think I would EVER be able to afford one, even a used one. I drove past the dealership and on the lawn was a 2001 Spa yellow with the OEM hard top. I was immediately in love. I had no idea the hardtop existed, mind blown. The car was perfect, the body was mint, completely stock and had 31,000 kms. The pricewas right and I was sold. A couple years later and it transformed into what you see below. It was my PERFECT vision of an S2000
So in 2010 I had the bright idea to sell the car (my biggest life regret) to help with a down payment on a house. At the time I figured i'd get another one in a year or so. Boy was I wrong. As each year passed I found "more important things" to invest my money in.
Fast forward to 2017. I'm now in a position to start shopping for another S2K.
My initial criteria, like most, was for the car to be tidy and bone stock . I was not too picky on generation or colour, to be honest. Obviously the lower the mileage the better. I just wanted a well kept, CLEAN example of the car, much like my old S2K. I looked at bout 6 examples ranging from MY00 to MY08...and always found myself ...disappointed. Most of the bone stock examples had heavy rock chips, badly curbed wheels, torn soft tops, rusty brake calipers, torn seats etc, or a combo of those. Then, one afternoon I came across a local add of a MY00 NFR (admittedly not my ideal generation OR colour but the add seemed too good to be true, obviously a typo on the mileage...4,600 kms (2,800 miles).
I made the 2 hour drive into the country to see the car. It was everything the add said it was. Bone stock, all 10 "numbers matching", one owner, MY00 NFR S2000.
After spending some time looking the car over the owner made ME an offer I couldn't refuse.

My first mission was to correct the paint without spending a fortune. While the car was always stored in doors, and covered, I don't think the PO washed the car before covering it. Thus grinding dust and dirt into the finish.
Fine swirls and surface contaminants were present.
I preformed a little clay bar action and a mild cut and polish,
and ended up with a finish I could live with (please excuse the dust IN my iphone camera lens.
and a little interior detail
Next was the issue of the ORIGINAL, hard as a rock, S02 tires with the 1999 date code.
I swapped them out for some fresh RE71Rs so I could have a little fun in the summer with the car until i get her suspension/chassis/wheels sorted out (Spring 2018)
Next was the addition of the Spoon air duct. I always loved how the stock engine bay looked and wanted to maintain that while enhancing the car where i could. I wanted to get the matching plug cover to help the theme flow, but I couldn't find stock anywhere.
Other than the engine oil (changed yearly) all the fluids were 17 years old. so i went ahead and changed them. Castol Edge engine oil, Honda MTF, and Motul 90PA diff fluid. I took the opportunity toss in some Spoon magnetic drain plugs (engine & trans). I used a cheapo, bottle-mount hand pump to pump the fluids up into the cases.

I wanted to address the AP1 retainer issue. Maybe silly given how virgin the engine is but it only takes one over rev to stress those retainers. Piece of mine knowing they're done.
Honda goodies.
Blue Point Spring compressor. This tool made the job a breeze.
And as ! feared...no cracks lol. Oh well, at least they're done.

Few updates.
I jumped on me most recent Evasive group buy for the 17x9.5+50 CE28Ns. Wanted to leave the option open for bigger brakes in the future; I'm not a fan of hub spacers or buying wheels twice lol.
I went with the flat center caps as i love the deep "lug well" of this particular face and don't want to take away from that.
I'm a sucker for Volk bronze. I loved my RE30s the first time around.
Also picked up a FK8 shift knob and Spoon 710 cap from a couple local shops.
Laying dormant in the garage until spring

I remember seeing this car on kijiji when I started looking for one for myself, never ended up looking at this particular one in person but man that's a gem. Looking forward to updates on this build!

Ya man. At the time I wasn't looking for an AP1, to be honest, but he gave me a price that I couldn't refuse.
