Hey guys,

I decided to put some stuff up here so I can get feedback/opinions and to just have it here.

I bought this car after many months of thinking what car would suit best. To cut a long story short I decided on an s2000. I started looking around and at the time there was only one in my local area so I went to check it out.

I couldn't find a fault on the body work without some serious looking - found a couple small scratches and couple 2mm dents on a door. Interior was immaculate, forgiving some driver's seat bolster wear, engine bay was perfectly clean with no sign of anything wrong. Test drive was perfect, absolutely nothing amiss.

So I bought this:

Since then I havent done much to it. Audio needed fixing as it was a bit ghetto for my tastes. I bought another set of OEM wheels that had been painted black with the idea of using them for track work - I reguarly compete in hillclimbs and motorkhanas as well as attend track days.

I took it to the skidpan -

Motorkhana (dad driving, I'm behind the camera)

Then I bought the first real mod...mmm carbon

Then these popped up for sale so I bought them

found some tyres...

225/45 and 255/40 RE55s

Yesterday I finally got to try them out

Day started pretty well when I equaled my PB on the very first run on a not quite dry track.

Second run produced my fastest time by 0.6 sec and the first time I've ever done that track in less than 51 seconds. New PB is 50.74.
Third lap started out well but an error caused it to not be another PB
Then it rained. Much sliding and useless times ensued.

Things I found out today were:
I rub sometimes at the front (17x9, + 48, 225/45)
I need more front camber. I had a pyrometer with me and was consistently warmer on the outside of the tread than the inside.

Fortunately these two go well together - though I'll still need to roll some guards I think.

oh, and I need to mount my go pro a bit better.

Anyway, a couple of pics

and a video of the fastest run.

and arriving very soon.... Ohlins

Did a track day at Marulan with the MX5 club today.

First track day for the S2K, first motorsport on the Ohlins and first time at Marulan.

All I can say is WOW.

It took a couple of sessions to get tyre pressures and coilover settings reasonable but once that was done the grip levels were amazing, it was very easy to drive the car reasonably hard. Oversteer was predicable and controllable.

I started the day in one of the slower groups as I'd never been there before and I'm not a regular at mx5 days. Suffice to say after that first session I had faster lap time than my mate in the fastest group that day and I spent about 6 out of 8 laps behind traffic. Marulan is a very tight circuit so there is only overtaking down the straight.
Second session I was in the next group up and it was a little better - I think I had 3 clean laps.

After that I was first car out in the fastest group and got more clean laps than traffic laps- much better. There was no official timing for the day but phone GPS suggests just under 44 seconds. Very happy with this result if it's true.

I had a GoPro on for most of my sessions except the last and fastest session and I've done some timing off that - 44.5 is about what I've seen in the videos.

However, I had some issues during the day.

First up, after my second run I came back with brakes madly smoking. Had a look at the pads and they were visibly melting. Strangely, still had plenty of stopping power. The pads I was using were EBC reds - I decided on those thinking I was going to be too fast anytime soon and they are going to be easier for street driving. Turns out I was wrong and over heated them immediately... I had a pyrometer with me and measured approx 440degC on the rear rotors. So. full track pads and brake ducts required.
Secondly, I wasn't convinced by the temperature of my oil. I don't have an oil temp gauge but I just had the feeling that at the end of some sessions my oil was getting too hot. Possibly water temps too... So I might invest in a better radiator and oil cooler. Marulan is probably a bad track for temps though as I never got above about 130km/h so never had huge amounts of airflow.

I'm saving/uploading my fastest recorded session now... post a link when I'm done.
