Default Cfolks project

My interest in s2000s began roughly 10 years ago when both of my uncles each had one as a "fun" car. Its always been one of my realistic dream cars but I didnt think it would happen already. My first car was a 1991 240SX, then I acquired a mk1 Vw Rabbit for free, so I had two cars. My girl and I were dating for 2 years and serious, so I sold the 240 to save for a ring.

She ended up cheating 6 months later and I decided to take the money and buy a new car. We had matching Vws so I lost interest in my Vw, and it was basically done so I needed a new project. I looked at miatas, rx8s, 944s, 914s, classic british coupes, original minis. it came down to a mini in Minnesota and a s2000 in Michigan.
[attachment=48442::]
I chose the mini and drove 7 hours to pick it up only to find it rusted severely, way more than the owner had said. We came home, went on vacation, and a couple days back we drove to michigan and picked up the S. heres what she looked like

the engine bay was nicely tucked and shaved, bwr coilovers, spc camber ball joints, body was in very good shape, only the fenders and front bumper needed to be fixed. 130,000 on the body and 60,000 on a ap2 motor.
at 19 I was incredibly thankful to own 2 cars that I loved
[attachment=48444::]
first thing i did was a nice weathertech plate cover and new rear brakes. then, just over a week later I wrecked it. and I felt like an idiot. I was going about 90 and hit a freakn huge bump that sent the whole car in the air. the car was so low i shouldve known even a small bump can be disastrous. I slide off the road, hit a speed sign, and slid back on the road. to be honest I didnt even feel the impact of the sign but it destroyed the car. the QP was pushed way it, the rim ripped apart into pieces, all the suspension components broke, the wheel and brake assembly broke off, ripping the exhaust and rear bumper with them. The driver fender buckled up from rubbing half way on the road. the QP pushed on the piece right behind the top and made it all wavy. the tubular subframe flattened from sliding on the road. and the speed sign came down and hit the convertible down that was folded down, right behind the rollbars. it bent the very front metal cross beam, im just glad it didnt hit my head, or the girl i was with. The wheel also hit the trunk floor and pushed it way up . Here's the damage

I got a ticket for speeding and one for lane violation, $350 for towing, and I would have to pay a couple hundred for the sign that I knocked down. I went to court to request court supervision and they completely dropped everything, probably because the cop told the judge I was literally in the fetal position laying on the ground at the accident, not because i was hurt, only because I was so mad at myself for wrecking my S. I debated scrapping it and saving for a new one, but I felt terrible wrecking someone else creation that they put blood, sweat, and tears into. I felt like I had the responsibility to fix it and I knew Id have a stronger connection with the car if I did. First thing I did was buy a new subrame for $500, 50k miles and had everything but the LSd
old vs new
[attachment=48449::]
she was then driveable and she drove great. i did a home alignment and everything was just as it was before.
[attachment=48450::]
the only thing on this car I had to have someone else do was too strap down the car and pull the GQ with hydraulic equipment. they also pulled down the trunk floor, and shaped the QP. my neighbors friend, friend did it for $700. the same day I picked her up I went to Milwaukee and bought a set of rims with tires for $400. she was finally looking good again
[attachment=48451::]
[attachment=48452::]
i bought an ap2 radio door, a new sony headunit, and the modifry harness to retain my dash controls
[attachment=48453::]
over half the leds for my angel eyes didnt work and the ones that did were so dim it looked terrible. So i cut open the headlights and installed all new, brighter leds.
[attachment=48454::]
[attachment=48455::]
I thought this was funny. this is at the college I go to. if my car wasnt wrecked already I wouldve been pissed but I just had a good laugh at terrible drivers.
[attachment=48456::]
I messed around with painting the wheels. I didnt know if I wanted blue again. I hated the blue in the beginning but it really grew on me, so after a few different paints I decided to go blue. I also picked up a spa yellow front driver fender for $170 and spray painted temporarily.
[attachment=48457::]
my cars in my grandmas back garage, she lives immediately next door, all I have to do is snow blow for free in winter
[attachment=48458::]
the car came with a crappy fitting lip that I manage to cut and bend to fit relatively okay I was enjoying the car for a month or so and DISASTER happened! the lsd locked up while normal driving. I pulled over on a side road and knew it was bad. thankfully I was a half mile from home so I grabbed my VW, a jack and a lot of tools. I had to disconnect the drive axles just so we could tow it home with a tow bar and my dads subaru outback. this pic also showed the front splitter I made out of abs plastic.
[attachment=48460::]
[attachment=48461::]
I got a LSD from a guy who I bought the subframe for $400 and was stoked to get her back on the road.
then I got apr carbon mirrors and carbon splitters from jonmotoring. the mirrors were $180 and the splitters $270 shipped. i absolutely love them both. back on the road looking better than ever, i also started to work on the old mirror holes
[attachment=48462::]
[attachment=48475::]
[attachment=48476::]
i came across the diy hood vent and immediately went for it. my whole car needs paint and more body work so I wasnt worried. i decided to go one step further to flare and mold the edges. im still not done even on the one side, its a long and tedious process
[attachment=48463::]
[attachment=48464::]
i painted my valve cover, spark plug cover and a few other things. i also got rid of the CC unit and moved the coolant tank to under the carbon cooling tray. then I shaved and painted that corner.
[attachment=48465::]
i tried blue valve cover with gold spark plug cover, didnt dig that.
[attachment=48466::]
Then i tried a white spark plug cover, wasnt digging that either
[attachment=48467::]
i ened up going with the body color and polishing the letters. i also took my header out and polished them. took about 10 hours. starting with a hard sponge sanding wheel on a drill, then sanding with 220, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500, and 2000. came out like chrome
[attachment=48468::]
[attachment=48469::]
[attachment=48474::]
[attachment=48470::]
after the heat turned them gold
[attachment=48471::]
i thought the cup holder placement was ridicolous and i wanted a place to put my iphone so i made this little tray,covered it in leather, and attached it underneath the console. some cutting and trimming was needed but it wasnt a bad job and im very happy with the results. the lightning cable is secured underneath so the iphones slides in and out effortlessly and stays in place. it also discourages me from texting and driving!i also bought a Blox blue shift knob
[attachment=48472::]
my latest project was a radar detector. i wanted something hidden, but I couldnt fork out the price for one of those systems. I decided to get a external cobra detector and mount it inside my rear view mirror. I had a spare mirror from my Vw and I bought a small mirror from autozone. I cut one into thirds and fiberglassed the third onto the new mirror. so then i had a full mirror with a little extra spot. I put tinted plastic in there and cut a hole in the back for the radar to slide into. the light shines through the tinted plastic, but otherwise it looks all black. this was my affordable way of having a semi hidden detector. cops cannot see it by just driving by and even if a cop pulled me over he wouldn't see it by talking to me through the drivers window.
[attachment=48473::]
I had a video showing the numbers shining through but I don't think I can post videos. I also picked up an oem spoiler for $50
[attachment=48477::]
And fixed this piece
[attachment=48478::]
There's probably a lot that I missed, the pictures aren't necessarily in order or said in the order I did things. I put this all together now so there may be gaps and mistakes in it

i don’t have too many pictures unfortunately. I stopped documenting and lost a ton of photos along the way. It’s still a work in progress. Lots to do! I’ll drop photos here periodically
