Post The Hypocrite: OneSilverS2k's LS1 Swap into 2007 S2000

I'm from Michigan and I am glad to finally begin my build thread. I went with a new direction - in my other build thread I was going for more clean look, reconditioned interior and suspension upgrades. I decided to venture into new territory, the V8 American muscle car.. My entire life I vowed to not purchase or build V8’s. From a young age I just felt it was more empowering to build cars with smaller engines which could still respectfully complete a V8 without any problem. So after 13 years of working on countless four and six cylinders I said to myself lets do something you are not comfortable with. Why not right?

The build threads name is “The Hypocrite” for a good reason clearly, I never thought I would be interested in having or build any car with a V8 and look where I ended up. This is not something normally I would do, but I want a fun challenge and the reward of being able to do this swap will be satisfying – also I live in the Motor City, Detroit Michigan, so this car will fit in quite well around this area. I will be starting a YouTube channel soon once the bulk of the build begins. My end goal is to have all as

I ordered my kit from Import Muscle which is here I just have to get pictures! 7/18/18

Car being swapped is a 2007 LBP wit 136K – . I just also had the entire car repainted. The direction I was going for was just to have a mint clean well running S2000, but now it is time to add more power! The engine swap out of my car just sold to someone in Canada so it is time to get the ball rolling.

The I just purchased 6-22-18 a '04 GTO LS1 T56, which was purchased just for the swap. I am going to rebuild the transmission as 2nd gear can not be used. I ended up purchasing an 98 Camaro T56 transmission.

Engine is out of the S2000 now and sold - this helped offset the price of the entire GTO.

Sweet Yeah wouldn't be ideal to go with a heavy iron block in this car.

Alright progress is finally be made. The last few months have been busy, so I now have time to begin the project. I just started last night removing the engine from the GTO. Not as hard as I thought. I decided to remove the entire engine + transmission with the sub-frame. Since I have a lift at home this was not to difficult. Just in case anyone is wondering what has to be done to remove the engine, transmission, and sub frame, this is a short list, (based off memory).

The since is now out of the GTO. I plan to disconnect the engine from the transmission tonight and place it on an engine stand. The GTO does have 200K miles, and because of this the T56 does does not go into 2nd gear. So the next steps in a month or so is to fix that concern and see what else I have to do to that.

I will post all my parts I have purchased soon, it's a pretty large amount. If you scroll to the bottom below the pictures I have a excel document I have created of my purchases to date.

-Remove radiator & fan, coolant, and remove all necessary hoses., I also remove A/C lines, my A/C was not charged, so I did not have to worry about reclaiming the refrigerant
-Drain transmission gear oil, reinstall plug so you do not forget
-Remove drive shaft
-Remove fuel line
-Remove EVAP line
-Remove retaining bolt and nut from steering shaft to steering rack
-Remove shifter boot, then remove shifter so it does not get in the way as it lower down from inside the car
-Remove exhaust from the the header back. Ensure you disconnect all o2 sensor to prevent damage
-Disconnect coolant hoses from pressured tank and drain, remove tank
-Remove clutch line from master cylinder
-Remove PCM and and pull engine wiring harness around the brake master cylinder
-Remove connectors of the engine harness from inside the vehicle driver side footwell, release the grommet interlock to feed the harness out of the cabin of the car
-Remove power steering lines from the power steering cooler
-Remove throttle cable if equipped
-Remove all wiring from fuse box, grounds, horn, etc.
-Remove ABS sensor from hub
-Remove Brake caliper and hang it up so when the sub frame lowers it does not damage the lines or caliper
-Remove the nut on both front struts
- I used a cherry picker and transmission jack while I remove 4 bolts from the front sub frame. Be careful as you lower the engine down and make sure all connector and other parts are not interfering while you lower the engine and transmission down.

Thanks, its on an excel spread sheet, so it is pretty much, Part # (if provided by the manufacture), manufacture of the part, name of the part, description of the part, cost, and quantity.

Alright progress is still being made. I now have the engine disconnected from the transmission. Had to run to the store to purchase M10 X1.50 bolts to attach the engine to the engine stand. Guess I do not have that size laying around lol. The flywheel and clutch has been removed as well. I bought a new rear sump setup for the engine. I know 240sx guys look for the front sump and maybe they would trade me for their setup, but I found a new setup for 230.00 shipped + I had to purchase a new GM dipstick for 28.00, so not into the oil pan much. Once I remove my pan I will just sell that to offset the cost. I was able to get the cradle back into the GTO last night. I am going to clean up the garage tonight and get the GTO out in the drive way. I already sold the shell and the purchaser will be here Saturday to pick the car up. That will free some space up thankfully.

My Flyin' Miata headers should be here today - I have a F-body alternator, F-body 4-pin alt plug, and much much more coming this week. I am pretty sure between amazon and ebay I have bought enough parts for awhile lol.

I have not decided what my next goals are going to be. I can start on the engine, transmission, or the actual S2000. I think I will begin the cleaning process of the engine and transmission. The car has 200K on it, so there are leaks, and the previous owner lived on a dirt road, so everything is pretty well coated. A small power washer, tooth brush, and a lot of greaser will be used very soon.
