Just read through this whole thing. Badass story dude! I was wondering why I was so entertained by your humor then I saw the ESWS on your coveralls and it all made sense hahahaha. Are you out of naval station Norfolk by chance?

Thanks man, yeah I guess could try out a helmet cam, but that's a lot of work haha.
Yeah trackdaze had etechphoto.com at Shenandoah last time. I'm not sure if they have a permanent photographer, probably don't.
Nah no baffled oil pan. I probably should but I've been running slicks on this car for a year and half now with no problems, and that includes doing 62mph on Shenandoah's carousel. Personally I think you could get away without a baffled pan. The only guys who really need it are forced induction 300+ whp on a banked oval course.

Thanks for the link to the photographer, I usually don't pay too much attention to the photos, but maybe one of these days I'll buy some. At the very least I can show the wife I didn't hang out at the strip club all day.
Man I'm really surprised you don't run a baffled pan.. you are definitely a "run whatcha brung" kinda guy. lol It's interesting because I know people that've lost motors, but I guess like anything it's hard to pinpoint the real cause. If it's working for you then no need to fix what ain't broken..

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it! Nah I got out a year ago. What boat/squadron are you on?
Yeah I think us navy dudes are all f@#ked up in some way (maybe military dudes in general). Its probably from being locked up on a floating prison with only mind-numbing work and ugly whores to keep us occupied. Can you imagine if you were on a sub?! Those dudes were all about getting in that scuttlebutt. Ugh, I actually threw up a little using the term 'scuttlebutt', blech.

You know what? In retrospect, I'm going to go back on what I said in regards to baffled pans. Perhaps they are a good preventative measure. However, I still maintain that the only guys who actually need one are the ones who are doing 160+ on a banked course. Otherwise, I think you would have to have some crazy off or spin to oil starve the engine. Although, I'm sure there are many exceptions to what I just said, but in my own experience, I haven't fully felt I needed one. Maybe I'm just going too slow. <-thats actually what the problem is.
Its pretty bad though because I do have a spare pan, I'm just too lazy to buy a baffle. Plus, there is other stuff I need to be doing, like getting another beer or eating chips and salsa. I f@#king love chips and salsa. Its like crack cocaine, but in delicious tomato paste form.
Dude are you coming out to Summit Main June 11/12th? You can get those track photos...
EDIT: shit. I just went through some non-baffled oil pan horror stories, and I realized I need to get my shit together and get a proper baffle.

I'll be at Summit Main with Nasa-ma next weekend if you would like to join. The next event that I'll be doing that is closer to the Carolinas will be VIR for oktoberfast.

Hey guys whats up? So today was a maintenance day. In-between events I will bleed my brakes, and then every other event I will flush the brake fluid with new stuff. I also needed to change my oil/filter and swap out my rear brake pads. I had worn them down to just a smear of material left, but they had lasted for at least a year so that is pretty amazing. I use a vacuum pump to change my oil and brake fluid. Its absolutely amazing, and cuts down the time needed to flush the brake fluid to just a quarter of the time it normally takes, and it has allowed to get the firmest pedal feel than previously obtainable. I've used gravity bleed and two-person methods, but neither beats a vacuum pump.
Crappy camera phone photo dump:
^my car spends a lot of time on jack stands. This is pretty common for routinely tracked cars.
vacuum pump sucking off my car's oil pan.
Flushing the brakes. There is yellow brake fluid in the tube but it isn't easily visible in this photo. ^show car guys are probably throwing up after seeing my calipers, haha .
the state of my rear brake pads. Notice the uneven wear between the inboard and outboard pads. The one worn to the backing plate is the outboard pad. Any of you guys experience this? I do not have any brake cooling routed to the rear brakes.
I have a lot of spare brake pads.
I've gotten pretty proficient at changing pads. I could do all four corners in about 15 minutes. Again uneven wear on the outside of the rotor. I think this was due to just the outboard pad wearing out and having uneven areas of pad material left.
"new" pads on. These should last for at least one weekend, and then I will have to buy a new set.
Fluids being topped off. I actually do keep the engine bay somewhat clean. It makes it easier to find faults/leaks.
Car all buttoned up and finally washed. I hadn't washed it in like 8 months. I used Mother's Racing Rubber Remover, and it is a miracle worker because you just spray it on and then wipe the old tire mark off. I used to have to scrub the spot to get it removed. I had to use at least a quarter of the bottle to get all of the crap off of my car.

Hey bud, I was experiencing the same thing as you with the uneven brake pad wear in the rear. It happens when the slide pins wear out the inside of the caliper bracket, and the piston doesn't compress as evenly as it did before. I ended up buying remanufactured calipers for all four corners (fronts did it too) and that's fixed the problem entirely.
