In case anyone is interested in this thread still. I currently own a 2010 ninja 250R and just recently I test drove the 300. On paper these bikes may seem somewhat similar but the 300 feels so so so so much better. Did i mention how much better the bike was? Freeway speed is capabale for my 250 I do it daily in the summer for about 45 miles each day. But the 300 didn't feel as tired up at those speeds. Both bikes are extremely light and flickable. I had a zx6r at one point and honestly i hate to say it but for day to day riding. I would take the 300 over it. If the 300 was available when I was buying i would of hands down bought it over the 250. However I reallllly want to try out the cbr 500. I feel like it'll be the best of the both worlds.

I like the naked look better, too, and it's $500 cheaper. CB500F:

but again, too much power
It has ~54hp, less than half what the supersport 600s are making. A bit more than the Ninja 300's 39hp, with more torque. But then it weighs quite a bit more, too.

I wouldn't discount it, CB500F with ABS is only $500 more than the Ninja 300 with ABS.

I don't think you'd go wrong either way. But if you weigh much more than, say, 180 lb., you might really consider the 500.
Never did pull the trigger but this was really the best advice. After comparing the two and not being too intimidated by the small increase in power over the Ninja, it is a much (IMHO) better all around bike for not that much more money. It will snow here in a couple months so I am not in the market, but I see 2013's as low as $4k on Craigslist and will pick one up in the spring. I like the R, X, and F. I think the F has the best look but after riding a naked bike for the first time at speeds over 60, hate the lack of wind protection. The R or the X in white will probably be the buy.
