Who needs to shift when you can roll on 100mph in first gear lol Bad ass yes. But silly machines for the street. First thing id do is gear it down a ton.

Ducati announced the same tech for the 1299 series, I wouldn't be surprised to see it on the new R1 and updated RSV4 in the near future. All of the new bikes are pretty badass...except the H2

A) First gear is *only* ~94mph B) Considering the bike has no problem with power wheelies at ~140mph, all you'd do is make the bike more difficult to ride, which really defeats what BMW accomplished with the bike. If the BMW was half as bad with a 90mph first gear as Ducatis are with ~60-70mph first gears, I'd agree...but the BMW is perfect pretty much everywhere. It shouldn't be possible to have a bike that deals with cities with so much composure, and then has such an insanely high performance envelope, but there it is.

And yeah, it's silly for the street, but it's also a ton of fun no matter what the speed, which is the real challenge to all these new bikes IMO.

My bike tops out at 100mph But its quick, 0-60 3.5-4sec. It’s a bit of an obscure bike for the street which makes it just an absolute attention getter. 04 KTM EXC250 2 stroke, supermoto, 17" warp 9 wheels/ s20 battle axe tires (120/160) oversized rotors etc. 225LB/50hp. Draggin elbows

my '06 R6v will do 78mph at 16.5k rpm in first. top of second is around 100. people have to remember the ratios in the tranny are FAR closer together than a car's "close ratio" trans. my bike has stock gearing.

Why would you need a clutch if you can upshift without problem and down shift?

You ever jam a bike into first gear from a stop by mistake? Yeah ouch lol

Years ago I rode a Bultaco dirt bike that I upshifted without disengaging the clutch. Just slightly back of the throttle, step on the shifter then nail the throttle; Woo hoo! Never jammed into gear at a stop without first pulling the clutch lever.
