Can't see the pictures here at work so I will have to wait until later today...
My first bike was a Yamaha RD400F Daytona Special. Bought it new off the dealer showroom floor. It was the Canadian or European model.
By far the most fun bike I have ever owned and there have been about 10 since then, including a '82 RD 350 (water cooled.)
What a wheelie machine the 400 was! Crack er open in first and she'd go right over if you weren't careful. Second gear and a gentle tug...I went with expansion chambers swept up to allow for more lean. The damn thing was so light and nimble. Kind of reminds me of the feeling I get in the S.
I had a brother in law who rode motorcross and the first ride I went on it was to where he was racing on the weekend. I never realized how special a bike it was until all the bikers came around to my camp site to see it. I wish I had held onto it.
The only problem I ever had with it was when the chain broke and swung up through the transmission. It was late at night and I spent about 2 hours with a flashlight walking up and down the street picking up parts.
