After seeing so many S2ks show up at a couple '06 Slush events, I thought we would have better numbers at the Boondoggle. But, I am happy John and Mac showed up on street tires so I could have something to shoot for.
You must have turned away when I went through the showcase turn slideways! Easily lost a good couple of tenths there by going in too deep. I'm sure I'm not the only one though.
The car did surprise me with its balance. There was definitely understeer but by my 2nd run I had (mostly) figured out how to drive around it. The car responds well to aggressive trail-braking and, of course, poking of the right foot. I had such fun playing with the attitude once I got the car sliding.
John or Mac, did either of you get to the rev limiter on the far east side of the lot, before the final 2 turns? I didn't have time to look at my tach to see how close I was but it felt like I was in VTEC for a decent amount of time on that little straight. The car arrived at that next braking point in a hurry. Seemed like the course was 'geared' well for an AP2.
The 2nd half of the course, after the showcase turn, was fantastic. The off-camber blind finish (darn that fat A-pillar) suckered me into a powerslide every time.
I regret now not having a camera mount for the car. I don't know how often I'll autocross it, with two competitive MR2s (and a huge stack of R tires for them) to satiate my need for nimble speed. It's a disturbing problem to have -- too many fun cars and not enough time to race them all!
My pictures should be up soon. Wouldn't you know it, my CompactFlash card wigged out during a great sequence of the modified AP1 and none of them were saved. I did get a couple mediocre shots of the car later.
