do you like to work on cars or give money to your mechanic? don't get used BMWs. Well, that's what I've heard....

especially after 50,000 miles.
also, if it is an ///3 wouldn't you want a coupe instead?

1) Too expensive
2) Automatic Transmission!?!?! c'mon you're killing me.
3) NEVER buy a used BMW unless you're a mechanic. Even brand new BMWs have major problems. 2002 M3's had a huge recall for certain production months where more than a handful of engines blew...

blue2k2s2k,

I think these cars are okay...a few friends and co-workers have bought used E36 M3's, and they haven't had any major complaints about them. My impression is that they're generally very reliable, but can be a big pain in the ass if something breaks (which is true of just about any German performance car, of course). The price seems like it could be a little lower, though, especially given the automatic transmission.

hehe, I shoulda given a little more information. this will be for my dad. He drives a stick, my mother doesn't. End of story, the boss said it has to be an automatic. Haha, marriage is great!!!

I hear ya on that used BMW thing. He bought, and still owns, a used '93 525i and it's given him a few problems. Nothing major however (knock on wood). I will make sure he is aware of the risk.......

As for the mechanic thing, he's got a good friend in the business. In fact, he will have him look it over IF he purchases this thing.

the consensus with the replies is that the price is too high. It should probably be around 20-21K??? That's what I think he should offer them....

thanks for all the replies. I'll try to convince him otherwise. Last night though, it did look pretty sharp.

ok. here's my .02: I used to have a 95 e36 m3. I got it cause it was a deal and yes I dumped a whole lot of money into it. mine was a 2door coupe and yes it was stick. had way too much power (they think that's why I crashed it). but anyways. the car didn't give me any problems but then again I maintained it. if you think about it every car out there has problems and also keep in mind there's those lucky wednesday cars. if you like it, or you're parents liked it. then go for it. these cars are sweet. and if I were to have my choice. my next car would be a bmw. that was why I was going to sell my s2000 for last month.

all in all I liked it. fast luxury and sporty. what more can u ask for?

don't worry, he didn't purchase it. Apparently, the hood has been repainted.........and it is starting to flake off already.....

and they were asking wayyyyy too much for it.
