Neither did I before I joined. Hard to explain.

All I can say is it was right for me. I suggested to my sons that they might want to go by and see if it was for them and told them to check out all the fraternities and not just mine. Ryley (older) did join a fraternity and joined mine. David hasn't... yet... don't know if he will.

I'm sure it's not right for everyone.
