autoX training?

Is there any way that I can practice autocross racing (not racing per say but just practice the principals of it) anywhere around here? Reason I ask, I'm considering entering De anza's yearly autox competition thing (they have a student division).

Thought if I do go, I might as well blow some people away and do justice to the car :) Hoping to be able to pracitce, doesnt seem like highway 9 would help much...

there's some local autox clubs in the bay area you can join. or you can go to the track, but that requires a little more $$$ and time. don't know the autox clubs off the top of my head, but you can go to the rx7club.com forum west coast section and they have some listings.

Any sort of area's on street that would have similar turns to an autox course? Not to go there and speed but to get an idea of the tightness of the turns.

Join SCCA for like $50 a year u can participate in all the autocross events in the area.

Also i don't kno if u heard, but DeAnza is building on the parking lot that they use for their autocross event...so it kinda sux. My friend is in the automotive program there and thats the lastest news i have heard....

Also just to give u an idea...I ran a 75sec run on their track and the only other S there ran a 68sec run with full mugen suspension, wheels, header and exhaust and the guy that drove the car has been to skip barber, and helped setup the track, so....I didn't feel that bad that i was 7sec behind him....

i didn't push it too hard either it was my first time auto-xing and i didn't wanna look stupid and spinout or crash into a bunch of cones...haha

Well the parking lots infront of the campus (Stelling side) are all done, they made a couple area's one way and what not, overall traffic flow has improved. They killed all the vegetation though so that kinda sucks, there is quiet a bit of dirt around so hopefully they'll replant some tree's.

I think they are still building towards the 85 side of campus, like at the auto shop area. Although that just might be part of the new building they are working on.
