you pull up from the bottom of the mirror.
for some reason, only one side has some glue adhesive stuff. i took a hair blow dryer to each side for about 5 min. it was near hot to the touch but enough to get glue to become more pliable and the mirror assembly came off easily.
i dropped the removed mirror assembly in some hot/warm water in a pot just below boiling. the mirror came off easily as well.
no shattered mirrors for me and i bought the spoon knock-offs sold locally by a forum member.

Two clips hold the bottom of the mirror assembly in place. Once unhook (sharp tug towards the rear of the car) the mirror assembly slides down and off.
I dipped the plastic edges in hot water for less than 30 seconds to soften up. Got the glass that would be closest to the car (because it's thickest) away from it's holding. There is a white tacking substance that is museum puddy holding the glass to the frame, in addition to the lip around the holder.
I used a butter knife behind the glass to break the seal of the puddy. Slow and steady works best here. This puddy becomes tough when handled harshly. It removed easily and the second dabbing of the material went easier than the first.
Gathering the excess off the old glass I made little balls of it again and put the new glass in. Due to the convex shape it doesn't touch all of the outer lip of the glass assembly. The seller did send me some 3M but I don't think it's required.
I kept my old glass and the 3M foam sticky stuff for if there is an issue.
Note - the driver side glass on my car was thinner than the passenger side. Both were original honda glass. My suggestion is to start with the passenger side to reduce the risk you'll crack the glass.
