Recs for repair shop, to handle burned car
Hi,
My car caught fire on the highway, in the engine compartment. It appears the firemen put out the fire before it got into the driver’s compartment.
I need to move it to a repair shop for insurance to inspect it, and afterwards go from there. The car is currently in Hayward/Oakland, and I live in Oakland but I don’t need it to be near where I live as quality takes priority.
Do you have any recommendations for repair shops? The car is heavily modified, though no work has been done on the block.
Or perhaps should I just tow it to a dealership? I’ve never been in this situation before so advice is welcome.
I should note, if the car is to be totalled, it is likely I’d buy it back to work on personally.
Thanks!

What does heavily modified mean and what state are you trying to restore the whole car to? If turbo or something, do you wish to keep all that even if it means you need to buy all new stuff?
All this really depends on the condition but I'd think you need to think of this in three different steps with two different specialists. Preferably a S2k specialist to tear it down and give you an accurate assessment of the current sate. A body shop to repair and repaint the damaged areas. Back to the S2k shop to rebuild it to its former glory. Performance shops and maybe the dealer can give you recommendations to get to a good body/paint shop.
I don't know your area but no way I'd want a dealer doing this type of stuff, especially on a modified car. I'd also suggest looking into a place that does S2k part-outs for your wiring needs and whatever was burnt up unless you want to go a different route. Lee C. Parts regularly parts out and is nice to deal with. I'm not in your neck of the woods but if the guy above me is correct that Blacktrax is an option, I've seen enough of their cars on here that I'd be inclined to trust them unless you have a different preference/idea. I think RockStar Garage is out that way too but I could be 8 hours off given my understanding (or lack of) of California geography. Sakebomb Garage and Evasive are other shops I've bought parts from in Cali. Not sure if they're anywhere nearby or would take on this type of job.
