Default SoCal'er moving to Bay Area!

Hi there Bay Area people.

After 28 years in Orange County, I'm taking the "other fork in the road". I'd like to live as close to Sunnyvale as possible in a couple of months (and I plan on working out of my apartment with my current job), so my question for those of you in the area is:

(Sorry, I already tried search function, didn't find anything on this)

1) Are you aware of any areas in Sunnyvale or surrounding cities that make you say "ghetto!" under your breath as you pass by?

2) If a one-bedroom apt is $1000/month, does that make you suspicious?

3) Are there areas that stick out in your mind as a total pain to get through due to a heavy volume of cars on the road, or due to too many stoplights?

Thanks an absolute ton for any info you can dish up!

one bedroom apartments in sunnyvale typically run around 1100 so i guess 1000 is all right. probably an older building or with small sq. ft.

bad areas....there are some spots that are questionable. in the older region of sunnyvale off of fair oaks/wolfe towards the 101 side, it's a little shady looking.

neighboring cities...cupertino is pretty decent throughout. you can't really go wrong. it's mainly asian folk. santa clara is okay, as long as you stay towards the mini k-town. anywhere past scott ave is grounds for getting your car stolen or broken into at night.

i personally would recommend cupertino as the city to live in. good luck with your search!

cupertino is probably more expensive. mt. view is the next city over and it's not too shabby there. santa clara is decent. i'm not too familiar with sunnyvale but the part that i worked at off mathilda and mary wasn't too bad. several companies in the area near the apartment complexes.

there's parts of sj that have new apartments with garages.. the woods is one and there's a new complex off capitol where the golf course use to be.. can't remember the name of it.. try and get a copy of the apartment guide here. it has a good chunk of info on apartments in the bay area.

if you need one, let me know and i'll pick one up for you next time i go to my credit union.

what's with all the so calers moving up here? i'm trying to move south but to no avail!!
