I went to the DMV a month back and wanted to add my Dad on my car but they said I had to basically re-register the car for $15 bucks and that means I have to fill out my existing pink slip with my dads name on it along with mine... again. so yea thats how it has to be done from my understanding hope this helps Arvin

I did this a little while ago when I bought my Miata and had to add my mom's name to the title. I just went to the DMV and instead of a transfer of ownership, you fill out a form where you can have your name AND your sister's name or the car can be in your name OR your sister's name. I don't know where you live, but if you're close to LA, the Culver City DMV always has super short wait times, like 10-15 minutes. Hope this helps

You can get insurance without being on the title.

My car isn't technically my car, but I'm still insured for it (and no one else is).

Wawanesa requires your name appear on the registration/title. I just verified this now. They said you have to have some kind of "interest" in the car.

I guess driving it isn't interest enough?

I ran into that with a few insurance companies too, but ended up w/ Progressive who didn't seem to care.
