Most of the top ones are pretty good, just check the feature set.

The Valentine-1 is normally the hard core choice for those who want arrows telling them where the threat is coming from etc...

The Passport 8500 is the usability choice, it has more options, is a bit smaller, and is arguably at least as good. No directional arrows though.

as far as I'm concerned it's a toss-up between the Valentine and the Passport X50

however I think that the V1 may be too sensitive for tightly-packed LA... the X50 may be a better fit - I actually wanna buy one... whats a good price for a new X50?

I think I paid 220 for mine, it was new but bought it from a private party

The ones with the blue displays go for a little more, but they are actually less readable...

yeah the X50 seems like a better buy too at 250 or so, vs the the V1 at 400 firm
they seem to offer the same protection too

Very true but the MAIN reason why I bought the V1 above all other reasons is because

Its the first and LAST radar detector you will need to buy because you can send it in for upgrades (small fee) V.S. X50 when they become obsolete you have to buy a completely new one in the future.

Spends a little more and save a shiny penny in the future! Plus the resale value of a V1 retains value :p

:D

This might help

sounds cool...

but

small fee? how small? you gotta pay shipping both ways too, probably
then you are also out of a detector for how long?

one more thing... how long can it stay upgreadable? when do they just say: "cannot be upgraded; buy a new one!!!"

i'm just trying to decide which one of those two...

DimaK321 12-01-2005 06:51 AM

also, how is the V1 against laser? and how often does it false in LA?

Thanks again to everyone ... I'll take a look into both of them
