The US is just moving on to a more service-based economy leaving manufacturing to developing countries like China and India, and a host of others. It's hard to purchase anything American nowadays anyway.
I understand your point about buying domestic goods, but honestly, most manufactured products have so much import content that where it's made is not where the money is going.
