My car came with only 1 key. I called 2 local Honda dealers (Pacific Honda and Mission Valley) and they both quoted me >$150 for a generic key and programming. They said >$40 for just the key, so I saved a couple bucks buying the blank online, but I still need somewhere to get it cut. Is the only option in the area really to pay one of them like $150 to cut and program 2 keys?

I had my dealer cut my key and I programmed it myself. You can read this thread. If you get the key cut and come up to Redondo Beach, I’ll be happy to program your key for free.

I bought an ap2 key from Amazon. got it programmed at a local locksmith. can't remember how much exactly, think it was around 40.

I ended up buying the keys online and having a local locksmith do it. Slightly cheaper than a dealer, but not by much. Wooward kindly offered to do the programming for me, which would have saved me $90, but unfortunately, I have pay per mile insurance and getting to him would have cost me about the same in insurance, gas, time etc. That said, it was a very kind offer.

The nice part is that they got my valet key to work (I got 1 generic master and 1 valet, so now I have a "complete" set). In doing so, they ended up cutting some non-chipped keys to test in the trunk/doors so now I have a spare master and valet key that won't start the car. Perfect to put in a lockbox in case I lock myself out.
