Long story short, boss's son bought used Kia from used car dealer. When they tried to renew dmv registration, they found out car still had lien from previous owner so now they can't sell the car. Trying to use carfax history to find source of the lien. Can anyone help?

i have friends that work at a loan office/mortgage place. These seems to have happened a few times. They get a loan using their car as collateral. They turn in the original copy of the title to the loan office. Then they request a copy of the title from the dmv and they use that one to sell the car. So the buyer buying the car thinks that it's paid off when it's not. I think youre boss' son is stuck unless you guys find the person who sold you the car.
