Default Lost my only set of keys to the S

Sucks...

I've been carpooling with a friend to work and haven't been driving the S for a few days. When I finally needed to use the car, keys are no where to be found.

Hit up the stealership and price they quoted me was 40 for a key, 60 for the FOB, and 108 for reprogramming the key. This doesn't include the cost of towing my car there for them to reprogram the key. Now my question is, is that price including cutting a key from scratch? And also, does the dealership really need the car to be there? Can't I just pull the ecm and have them program it that way?.

Anyone else find themselves in this type of situation?

Now for sure I'm investing in a second set

That price doesnt seem too bad. The last dealership i asked quoted me close to $200 for just an extra key. Im really worried that i might lose mine.

From what I've been reading, its much cheaper if you already have a set instead of having nothing in possession. I believe all they do is clone the keys, where as in my situation, they have to reprogram the key.

depends on the year. ap1 keys are easier to replicate if you have an extra key that we can pull the program from. its called a t5 key.

i havent heard of any dealership being able to program a key without the vehicle being present. im sure the labor cost you were quoted will include the cutting of the new key. if you're close to the west covina area, norm reeves westco charges 50 for programming.

Is the programming your talking about, cloning? Or the actual reprogramming of a new key.

You wouldn't happen to know what the charge is for a new key and fob would you?
