Running Race Seats

I would like to purchase some aftermarket seats like brides or recaros as my stock seats are getting old. I was wondering is there any to run aftermarket seats with harnesses without an aftermarket rollbar? Is there any way to run just a harness bar? Any suggestions? Thanks for your time in advance.

you cant run just a harness bar with nothing supporting it, There is 2 other ways to rig up the harness without the cage, one, you can tap int your roll hoops and that works, second you can mount to your seat, but that is very unsafe.

Thanks Greg. Any news on brakes? Is it safe to tap into the rolls hoops? I wanted to get the cusco but i read alot people calling it crushco. Is it really that bad?

It is not recommended to wear a harness without a proper roll bar or cage (and so is not allowed by any racing body or even in autocross). You don't want to be strapped in vertically in a rollover without that protection. The seat alone is no problem, and you can use a CG-lock on the stock belt to help.

Well.. actually, i;ve found that most racing seats don't allow use of a CG-Lock. :( The buckle placement makes it pretty useless.

my research

These will be connected to 1.25-inch Eye Bolt with 7/16-inch shank i have order from ioportracing and takata, since i believe home depot eye bolts do not comply for automobile safety regulations.

The harness will be connected to a 5/6point roll bar. The roll bar has hole predrilled for the shoulder eye bolts.

My main concern is what would be the safest mounting point for the lap portion of the harness? I have heard and seen on threads that the existing 3 point stock harness located below is where most people mount the eye bolt.

as for the other location, ive seen other people the other eye bolt which is mount parrallell to 3 point stock harness shown below.

if i do mount it to the transmission/exhaust piping location the other side will be backed with 2.25 inch Washer x 2 nuts.

i will also add a cotter pin to prevent the nut from unscrewing shown below.

as far as angles for the maximum and minimum limit i do understand the lap harness and shoulder harness should be as followed.

the position of my seat will be similar to this picture.

Just don't get a harness, use your stock seat belt and your fine.

OR buy the ASM harness bar.
Really nice and intelligent design.
Its available off the Bulletproof site under "safety"
