S2000 With Aftermarket Exhaust: California And Other States?

I'm noticing some fuss or is it some new law regarding having an aftermarket exhaust on, i.e. S2000 or other vehicles, here in California.

What were the changes? I did some google search and if I'm not mistaken , as long as it is not above 95 db, it should be ok!?!

Can someone bring some enlightenment?
I just don't want to miss out on our current affairs.

so, you Californians have no recourse? an officer can just ticket, charge, and that's that? I wonder if this will also target motorcycles or do they get a pass? it seems no one does anything about them Harleys ever. but the kid with the modified exhaust on his STi is a criminal.

**** California. My Forester won't pass so I have to change the exhaust out. Not worth paying $1000 to avoid getting refd. My AP2 isn't that noticeable unless I'm on it. From what I know Harleys will take a hit too.

One thing I know for sure is... people have voted for it and this one won. Not blaming anyone, but it is what it is.

I wonder, though, if this majority realize that their significant other, a family member or someome that they are closed with may have done modifications on their vehicles and now this law! They probably didn't put a lot of deep thinking on this one and iust clicked the box on the ballot.

California has so many laws. But this one hits and will affect a lot!

The only good thing about this place is the absence of a "safety inspection" that other states have. Perhaps it is the fact so many cars are rebuilt and homemade here. Plus, there is no rust or corrosion. That being said, the powers that be have made it very expensive to work on your cars yourself. Just look at the ridiculous fees and taxes involved with servicing freon to your ac.

The exhaust law hasn't changed, only how it is enforced. No more fix it tickets, only mandatory fine and possible state ref inspection. BUT you still have the option to go to a state ref and prove that your exhaust meets the 95dB limit and take it to the judge to possibly have the fine dismissed. The "mandatory" $1000 fine is what everyone is fussing about. You will have to pay the fine if you don't do anything. But more than likely, if you prove you're legal, then the judge will throw the citation out.

I come from a hick town with more diesel's and Harleys than you can shake a stick at and have never, not once EVER heard of a big, obviously modded truck, or a motorcycle pulled over for noise pollution.



And I don't hope to either, because if they go after them, that means they are going after the peeps in imports 10 times harder...

On the bright side, after a few years of the "fart cans" being fewer and fewer, our lil hondas wont be looked down on as "rice rockets"
the world needs more Jasma enspired sounds too, without the higher price tag.
