I am in the west LA area, as is my BF.
It's difficult to find a good place to meet for a casual gathering because so many of the take-over and sideshow morons have soured local PD and businesses on any sort of car gathering. But that doesn't mean it's impossible.
If you're just taking about a hangout for a couple of hours, personally, I favor local public parks with large parking lots and few speed bumps. Good alternatives are shopping centers with food places in the lot (for instance Costco Marina del Rey) so that you have a reason for being there which is to go grab a burger or burrito.
I was recently at the Harbor Freight on Sepulveda in Culver City and found myself thinking they have a great lot for a car meet. But you would absolutely have to get permission since there is nothing else that shares the lot, like fast food or even a convenience store. If you want to put something together, I'll help.

Thank you for responding. I was thinking of doing an early morning meetup/drive starting at Sawtelle Blvd. There is a popular strip mall on Sawtelle and Mississippi that is empty before 10AM-10:30AM on weekends. Another location would be the new Pacific Palisades mall - they have 2 dozen parking spots on street level that is mostly open before 10AM also. Yeah, would be cool to put something together even small for West Los Angeles.

If we are in town, you can count on 2 S2000s (mine and my BF's) to show up. Happy to share the info on my FB group. I think you definitely want to wait until after the heatwave breaks. September is a busy month for us, but things slow down in October.
Where were you thinking about driving to, if you do a meet and drive? Malibu is the closest option for anything fun.
