Default 2006 Pilot

2006 Honda Pilot 168,000 miles with 9 mo - 1 yr oil changes at Honda dealerships. Asking $5,995 at dealership. Any red flags? Called Honda, not part of Takata recall.

Well, it's a done deal. Accelerates smoothly, no jerkiness and brakes good. No unusual noises. Brakes at 6mm front, 5mm rear, Rear tires are two years old measured 7/32nds, fronts new at 11/32nds each, but will need to get a new spare tire Potential issues with Compliance Bushings, so we'll keep an eye out. Vehicle is for son-in-law who just rolled his motorcycle, which is totaled. Plan to do all fluid changes and filters, but engine oil is freshly done and still clear on the dip stick. Will need timing belt and related gear to be safe. Two owner history, no accidents reported. Evidence of young kids car seat wear and soda spill, but cleanable. Pretty clean in and out, otherwise. Yes, it's more miles than I would have liked, but I wasn't the one paying for it, so everyone is happy at this point. We shall see. He needed a vehicle to transport at least two others, military bags/gear and tools for side jobs. We weren't going to be in a hurry, yet his accident this week kind of spurred us on to looking again today.

I had an '03 Pilot my Dad bought new and then I bought from him at ~150k miles or so.

Never had a single issue with it, that year had an additional oil jet installed for the transmission via a TSB (IIRC) and I sold it with 180k.

The worst part is that thing chewed up rotors like no other, I replaced the OEM Honda ones with Brembo blanks shortly before it was sold hoping it would be better.

UPdate: The kid loves it. He wants to get the service manual and do the maintenance himself. He is pretty mechanically talented and he has plenty of tools to get him started.

Maybe I'm an old fart, but those Regular Guy car reviews are worthless to me. We tried watching that one above on the Pilot and we both turned it off after a few minutes. What a waste of time. He didn't review it. I think he likes to hear himself talk.

The Pilot is a very reliable and sound vehicle. My only negotiating point might have been the replacement of the timing belt/water pump and tensioner as part of the deal.

I did try to negotiate the timing belt, tensioner and water pump, but they wouldn't budge on that. Karen and I discussed that issue before we left the house to make our final appointment. We know that if they didn't cover it, we'd have to pay for that expense, so it was planned. That is something we will take care of in the next month or two. Pilot belts are to be changed every 60,000 miles for this model year.
