2012 Civic Type R Mugen
Amazing power out of a 2.2L, but the F22 from the AP2 makes similar power with the same liter size. F22 = 10-15~ whp more than the F20c, so crank #'s are underrated for F22. Plus... it's a Mugen. Overpriced, underperforming.
Perhaps for peak numbers (I don't want to get into a huge battle about how much more the F22 actually makes over the F20), but the midrange tends to be stronger with K-series motors which make F20/F22-type peak power, and while we're discussing power at the wheels, front wheel drive cars tend to have lower drivetrain losses than rear wheel drive cars, anyway. I expect this car to be noticeably faster than an S2000, although I wish this motor was going into the Japanese Spec Type R instead, since the hatch model doesn't have an independent rear suspension and the Japanese Spec Type R is already faster than an S2000.
the only real competitors in the market being the Mazda Speed 3 which isn't a very good car but has still seen success why not try it out and see what happens?
That said, I agree that car manufacturers need to spot leaving us out of all the best versions of cars. There is no reason that the Focus RS, type r's, or other specked out versions of sporty cars wouldn't sell just as well here. You may have to limit them a tiny bit for our emissions, but it really wouldn't be that much.
I always forget about the R32 but the WRX/STI to me are bigger cars that are a step above a civic size wise (and the STI isn't cheap aren't they close to the $40k mark?). Similarly the GTI it closer to the SI than a Type R. The mazdaspeed 3 and I guess the R32 are the only ones that really take a big step up in our market where as in Europe you have a number of small 2 door hatchbacks that are making pretty incredible power and who's entire purpose is to go fast.
Dude the mugen rr is a pretty fast car, I'd bet money it would beat an MS3 in a straight line along with most the cars to named. Have you seen the video where they race it with the s2000 type s? it smashed it very easy.
Nice to see them getting close to the HP levels needed to compete at this level. I'd imagine, stock for stock, this would be right there with the rest of the pack with handling to surpass most if not all of them. However, I'm betting the price would be well into the $30K range, which might not bode well when an MS3 is less than $25K.

love the look
personally i wouldnt be able to see myself buying any of the full honda mugen cars as if im going to shell out the money id rather customize it myself. Of course the mugen car would be all around much better then mine since professionals designed it but still, you gotta do you.

Its 0-60 is in the low 5s and it really walks an s2000 in a straight line, have you ever seen an ap2 race an ms3, gti, cobalt ss, wrx its pretty darn close with all those cars infact the s2000 pulls on all of them but the ms3 and its still really close. Now think the mugen rr pulls on the s2000.
