'25 Raptor R vs. '25 Cybertruck Dual Motor
 

Wife had a '23 Model Y Long Range and we traded in two months ago for a '25 Cybertruck Dual Motor. She wanted it so who was I to argue? :D I've had my '25 R since May.


I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Raptor R, but we took the CT on a road trip this past weekend and I have been driving it a bit more on the weekends. It's just so comfy, smooth, easy, quiet, and fast with no drama, no mess, no oil changes, no brake pads/flushes, no coolant, no sometimes jerky transmission, no 10mpg (I have a work gas card, so cost is not an issue), technology is seamless and easy, rear screen for kids to watch youtube, netflix, etc., and so on. It's just a great truck to drive and own. Styling is obviously subjective, but I'm growing to like it more.


Obviously, styling on the R is nicer overall and more traditional. Predator engine sound is good, suspension has more travel on R, but air suspension on CT is very comfy around town and on light off-road work.

Acceleration seems pretty similar between the R and CT, but obviously how it happens is very different. R is all sound and fury and shifts, and tires scrabbling for traction. CT just goes quickly, quietly, efficiently.

Anyway, I really like them both. I love my ICE, but I'm starting to appreciate the EV world more and more for how easy and efficient and relatively fun they are to own and drive.

You should buy the CT 1:18 scale diecast model from https://shop.tesla.com for your kids (or for you). I have one. It's pretty cool.

I see CTs all the time with various wraps, but I think I prefer raw stainless, though I've seen one that's become pretty grungy.

It is strange that the grungy one is somehow completely unobtrusive, almost invisible when parked.

Still, coming head on, it is so sleek with the light bar that it makes a normal pickup look like a barn find from the 1930s. "Yep, she still runs." <insert suspender snap>

CT is still on my list of future vehicles. I feel I need 400 miles of range though, to escape the apocalypse...

Thanks for the recommendation! Maybe for my boys for Christmas! They like the CT.

We thought about a wrap, but then I read you shouldn't take them through automatic car washes and we aren't hand washing the CT, so we kept the stainless to go with our monthly membership at a pretty good, new auto carwash that does a good job. Just run it through there a few times a week and it's always pretty clean.

The looks are growing on me. It's still weird/trash can-ish from certain angles, but other angles it looks pretty cool and it's definitely unlike anything else out there. But the way it drives is really great. Makes the R feel ponderous by comparison. Steering is crazy fast and the instant thrust with no shifting, no revving up, etc. is addicting.

Nice, it certainly is an interesting truck that doesn't blend in with the rest you see on the road. It's kinda funny how easily people are influenced, this truck was the hottest commodity at one point, nothing inherently bad about the truck has come out, but one election later and it's funny how things change.

EVs are king for daily commuting in traffic and casual driving. They are way less effort than most ICE vehicles, and generally less stress to maintain, as you pointed out. You just can't beat them for that kind of thing. Can't say I'm a fan of the Cybertruck's looks (or reputation) but I appreciate what drives it.

I think the CT's are kind of cool even with the funky styling, but man, they are YUGE!

That's what my wife likes about it. It's harder for the kids to hit each other in the back seat. Then, the rear screen can keep them placated sometimes with youtube, netflix, etc.

I drove it for 4 days while wife was out of town and then got back in the R. The R is great, but it feels a bit antiquated compared to the CT. A lot of parts are working to move the truck down the road and the efficiency sucks by comparison.
