Default 4 seater Miata...

If anyone watches the show Scrubs maybe they caught this... I don't know their names so just bare with me. It went something like this:

Guy: "So how about our date tonight"?

Girl: "The last date I went on was in 10th grade, but my boyfriend made me sit in the back seat of his Miata because his friend wanted to ride shot gun."

Stupid I know, but still. Don't you think someone would have caught it before they aired the show?

that's weird...most people I know (even the non-'car people') when they hear "Miata" the first thing they think of is "two-seater"

I saw that episode too but when I heard it, I saw it more as a joke. It was to highlight how important she was to her boyfriend, chosing his friend over her, and forcing her to sit in a backseat that doesn't exist but she thinks it does.

I'm sure if they wanted to make it a convertible joke with a backseat, they wouldn't have chosen a Miata.

Boys, read between the lines ................................... the "back seat" of a Miata is the TRUNK! ............................................... Get it?

Oh... well the way she said it didn't make it seem like the back seat. Maybe I'm just too slow to catch it than .

When I was younger I would use that line myself. Sending someone into the "back seat" of a car that didn't have one (ie, the trunk) is the ultimate low in status. I'm sure it was a "play" on words.
