Default Ameriprise: craptastic insurance co.

do NOT use insure with Ameriprise. I've been with them (thru Costco) for 4 years . Last Friday, got into pretty collision in Saab. This is our 3rd claim in 2 years - yah i know, sucky Asian driver. 1st accident went to subrogation tho it was not our fault; had to pay deductable. Second accident was a light tap between myself and a '96 Corolla, (no damage on my Volvo), AMEX paid out $3k to other party and doubled my rate. This time around, it'll probably be our fault but the car's clearly totalled.

We filed claim Saturday, today's Thursday and I've gotten 1 "missed" call back from a claim agent who NEVER ever picks up and never returns call. Was told on Tuesday adjuster would be sent in 48 hours, no adjuster today. Finally reached claims supervisor today: "your claims agent noted he called on Tuesday but there was no voicemail". LIAR! It's a cell phone number. Of course it has voice mail.

I've spent over an hour on the phone with them being on hold, being disconnected, transferred to the wrong extension, ad nausea. Almost as bad as Sprint PCS. ** ALMOST **

/Sorry for the rant. i just want a check for my dead swede steed

so i can get that E-M ultimate + dyno tune...

Sorry to hear about your car. Insurance companies can be a pain sometimes. But to clear up some confusion American Express no longer owns Ameriprise, hasn't since 2005. You should find there physical office location and stop getting jerked on the phone. It is much harder to ignore you when you are standing in the room.

Read through the department of insurnace guidelines, the insurance company needs to be make a determination within 30 days because of due diligence, otherwise they need to notify you with a reason. Read your rights, believe me itll light a fire under their asses. If they keep stalling, just coutn the days and file a DOI complaint.
Btw, you bought your insurance through a financial company, I;m sure that their claims department is independent appraisers...

State Farm, FTW. My agent knows me by name... not because of claims, but because we keep adding and removing vehicles to the coverage....

ie, because you pay his monthly bills purely through service fees for adding and removing vehicles on your insurance.

Not aware of those fees.

But to have insurance that won't give me crap (and covers modifications), totally worth it.

Insurance is one of those things NOT worth saving money on.

I also have Ameriprise and noticed on my billing that it has changed to IDS something now. I did file a claim with them a few years ago, I think when they were still Ameriprise, and they filled my claim quickly. I did have problems reaching an agent, but man, it got fixed and fixed quickly. The agent seemed really nonchalant about the whole thing. Said let me know what shop you're gonna bring it to and I'll talk to them to get an estimate and it'll get fixed. Was pretty cool. I liked them. But now, I am swithching to Wawanesa because they are half as much as Ameriprise. And with your story, it just justifies me switching. Sorry, and good luck. Oh, btw, my claim was that someone slashed my top and stole some stuff. They even cut me a check for clothes and stuff stolen from the car. Was less than $200, but still, no receipts or questions asked, just cut me a check.
