Audis are appealing to many because they are so subtle.

Not the whole OMG LOOK AT MY BENZ OR BMW I HAVE MORE MONEY THAN YOU PWNED OMG ROXORZ type of vibe.

;)

Yes, the S8 is very steathly you could say, it would blend in well, because of its conversitive lines, yet rip the doors of most sports cars. Thats what makes it appealing in my eyes, but yet I would prefer the new M5 or the up and coming RS6 (550hp!?!?! Twin Turbo V10 last I heard). If I needed a large sedan this would be the car i would want

Looking at a A8 or LS460 would probably be mid-$80s. So it wouldn't be that much more for the S8 (if it's mid-$90s).

It's a large car, but Audi has done good keeping the weight off even with it's AWD.

I loved my last gen S8, and while the car was quite large and heavy, it didn't feel quite as big as it was.

I even took it to the track one day, since the S was in the shop. There was no doubt it was fast, but the brakes just couldn't stop that thing time and time again.

The funny thing was there were 4 of us in it, and we were crusing around the track at full speed, faster then a lot of other "sports" cars out there, yet we had some light classical playing in the background, carried on some conversations about whose watch was better, all while feeling relaxed and refreshed from being beat up in our S2000's a few laps before.

It was an incredible car, I can only imagine this new one is just that much better. The best part, as mentioned above, I could drive that to work, clients, the gas station, and not look like a pretentios prick.

here is another first drive article -->>audiworld

Sounds like you may be able to get it for under $100K, but there are a lot of tasty optins like ceramic brakes and $7K stereo, adaptive cruise control, full leather, heated rear seats etc..

Gorgeous car. I've always loved the A8/S8 and this is no exception. Far better looking than all the other big cars from MB/BMW/Lexus to my eye.

The Audi is larger and has more TQ at a much lower rpm and has FSI.

Some might question if a peaky engine (like the BMW) is best for a 2-ton car. I know the Bimmer has the magic 500-HP figure, but the Audi has 90% of peak TQ at 2300 rpm and peak TQ at 3500 rmp.

Precisely. I'm a huge fan of TQ- it makes a car considerably easier to drive in traffic AND on the track. To me, a linear powerband is MUCH easier to modulate midcorner and at the corner exit. The easier it is to drive, the more comfortable I am and the more FUN I'm going to have.

Sure, it may not be as fast- I'm not saying that at all. But for me, I prefer a predictable, linear powerband over the peaky one if all things are roughly equal.

Audi does know how to design a good interior. Not a huge fan but I do like what they are doing.

I luv Audi interiors. That grille I am not so sure about. I would rather drive that than a M5 SMG.

Rai, you can always buy one a year or two old. They drop in value like crazy. I have a friend who bought a '03 745Li in '04 at dealer auction for $54K. He gave the guy who had the auction license $1k for the access pass. The MSRP on that BMW was $82k.
