Boss 302 Mustang
For real??? The Z06 is known as a track monster with the right driver. And it has about 60 hp on the Boss. And it should be quite a bit lighter. If it really is faster than a Z06, that is quite impressive to say the least!
That's an extreme example but it makes my point: cheaper, more common cars are readily abused or driven hard as compared to expensive, rare cars.I respectfully dis agree with this statement. While at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring FL I was able to run with an authentic Shelby Cobra 427Not a clone and verified by car tag under hood) as well as an Enzo Ferrari. I have to say the Enzo has a little bit more value than the Boss 302 or the R8 would.
Is it the one with the Laguna Seca Package? If so, it's got R-Compounds. Hardly a fair fight.
It mentions Recaro seats and a rear seat delete in their test car, which are part of the Laguna Seca Package, so I'm willing to bet it was.

On top of all this: "Ford brought 2010 Rolex 24hrs Daytona GT class winner Jonathan Bomarito."
Along with this, they're comparing times from different days (years, actually). Normally, 2 seconds on a track like Laguna Seca is a pretty good indicator of a faster car, but with the shady nature of the Motor Trend article (shocking I know) not specifying what trim they used and the hints at Ford being involved, this is suspect at best. At the very least, we know this car is in the same league as the M3 and R8, which is impressive in and of itself.

It wasn't the Laguna Seca version so it had standard Pirelli P-Zeros on it. Also, in the story, they said that with a grippy surface, the expect a 0-60 of 3.9s! Yowzers!
A ringer driver is one thing (lots of practice, I'm sure) but still, it's impressive! Four seats, $40K and times up there with some ultra-serious cars.

I doubt I'll do it, just giving a nod to the Boss as a great product worthy of my consideration. If I did it, the Boss would prob. replace the Miata as the track car, and we'd get my wife a comfy DD like an Outback or something.

"We proved the regular GT was just a tick off the pace of the M3 in our October 2010 cover story." - BS. They prove nothing. I much prefer Road and Track who fully disclose the models as tested, and a lot more of their methodology. For me, Axis of Oversteer is the holy grail. http://axisofoversteer.blogspot.com/...97-gt2-vs.html
Downloadable track data, full disclosure of how they performed the test, videos with telemetry, etc.
With Motor Trend, you get a vaguely worded paragraph that gives you a lap time and that's it.
Disclaimer: This does not in anyway detract from my feeling that the Boss 302 is awesome. I just wish Motor Trend would quit pretending their press days are "track tests."

Your wife sounds like a gem. My ex-wife would kick me in the balls if I ever suggested that she should drive a subaru (and not a BMW) while I bought a new, top of the line mustang for a track toy. Go buy her some flowers today, she sounds awesome, does she have a sister?

Every shot of the mustang shown in the first vid is a regular 302. (Not Laguna version) So it would seem that the time they are quoting would be for the base version. Alsowhile the second vid may have been an LS version, it was clearly not setting any spectacular lap times as it seemed to be more of a shake down session. The best lap time there was in the mid 1:50's, and the driver was clearly not pushing the braking zones, or carrying as much mid corner speed as possible. though it was interesting to see sustained G's over 1.0-1.1 through some of te corners.
