Default Car of the week

http://www.poundwholesale.com/shop/details.php?v_id=177

As I think I've mentioned before, I waste far too much time messing around on autotrader looking at cars I'll probably never buy. But, I really want to buy this one. Price is right. Condition looks to be amazing. Certainly no sports car, but it would be a fun cruiser. Plus, it would be fun experiencing a V12. Don't have that chance too often. I also think this could become a bit of a classic if kept in the same condition with limited miles. I know maintenance would cost an arm and a leg, but we have a great, local Mercedes shop down the street from our place, and I wouldn't put a ton of miles on the car (around 5,000/year?). I tried to sell the idea to the Mrs. saying that her dad and I could share it, and she didn't shoot it down outright. He's been jonesing for a convertible, and he'd probably never buy one for himself. Nevertheless, I do need to be talked out of this. My plan was to get the new S4 Avant when my lease on the FX35 is up in 18 mo. If I got the SL, I'm not sure I'd spring for an S4. I'd more likely get another FX35 (or buy mine) or maybe a used E350 wagon. Thoughts? Thanks.

Horrible reliability, massive repair bills, quite heavy for its size, and not particularly quick given the size of the engine.

Otherwise, a nice car.

Those are crazy low miles, though, that's for sure. I can see why you'd like it.

Wow. To be completely honest that is the first V12 I fell in love with!!! My Mothers friend brought over NFL player Terry Kirby's SL600. His was identical besides the 20inch chrome ofcourse. She took me for a ride and I almost creamed my pants... I will own a V12 before I leave this earth. I've got plenty of time.

Would it, though? The car's simpler in terms of electronics than modern cars, and it's an old-school Benz from the '90s, when MB still had quality control. I was thinking about stopping by the local shop to ask them generally about the reliability of these models. I woud also think 389 smoooooooth h.p. would get it moving well enough for a cruiser.

But, then again, I'm supposed to be letting people talk me out of this...

Aside from the unpleasant visual, what did you think of the car/drive?

what are you, 70 years old? You gonna drive it over to the hair club for men? Or to your AARP meetings?

(that's the best I can do)

Stupid automatic slushboxes, they drive you rather than you driving them.

Seriously, repairs will be costly, gas mileage won't be so good, and it will look dirty all the time.

It sure is pretty though, with low miles.

I got a chuckle out of that. Maybe I should just get a GTR, then, to be a bit faster and furiouser?
