direct hit on a sportbike

There was a story in the paper here about 25 years ago about a rider getting hit by lightning. He actually got the bike pulled off to the side of the road. When he took his helmet off, it split in two! He was OK.

that's crazy..i was just talking about lightning yesterday because i got caught on the golf course in a cart during a pretty nasty electrical storm. i was wondering the results of a golf cart direct hit.
i hiked the appalachian trail in 2004 and that year two people were struck and killed. one sleeping his tent and the other just walking in the woods.
i'm starting to think the odds aren't that slim....i wonder how they compare to winning the lottery??
