Default GM to cap gas price

I don't know how well this is gonna go for GM. Still trying to understand how it would make sense financially. It's only for selct GM vehicles.

Wow! And good through December 2007. If someone drove 4,000 miles/month, they could save a ton of money. Roughly $400/month in gas credits for 19 months. $7600....not too shabby for a traveling sales guy.

While a gimmic like that might boost car sales, it sounds like a good way to lose their shirts too. Remember that GM's current business plan is to scrounge and hang on for the next few years until their benefit expenses go down.

They should put the Vette on that list even though it is pretty good on gas

You don't generally offer incentives on cars you have no problems selling I believe Corvette production is "sold out" for '06. Whether that means "sold out" to dealers or to customers, I don't know, but they aren't having problems moving them.

No tech, but I bet they cap the mileage at 1000/mo (12k miles/yr) or 1250/mo (15k/yr). Doesn't really make sense otherwise...

I'm guessing dealers, since the Chevy dealer I pass every morning on the way to work has had the same four C6s parked there for at least three months now.

What a stupid gimmick. They would have to pay me to drive an H2.

This is a great way to promote the consumption of less gas and become less dependent on oil

I wish GM would just have straight rebates that would do nothing to encourage frivilous driving versus what we have here. GM has its own finances to look after, but by ignoring environmental and security issues related to gasoline consumption they are doing a disservice to their country. Or in other words to twist an old refrain: "What is good for General Motors is not necessarily good for America."

It also appears to be based on rated mpg which is short of actual mpg something like
90% of the time according to Consumer Reports so those rebate holders are getting shortchanged whether they know it or not.
