The '06 S2000 is rated at 237hp and if Mazda doesn't rerate their Renesis rotary to the new SAE hp standard, it's going to stay at 238hp.
I wonder what the rotary would rate under the new scale, probably 138hp or something.
As much as I love my '05 S2000, I do wish it had about 20-30 more horsepower and more low-end torque. When a new 280hp Toyota AVALON!!! of all things can keep up with our S2000's in a drag race, it's time for a hp boost.

Never came across a Toyota Avalon. Can they really keep up with our s2k? It seems like such a big and heavy sedan.Originally Posted by QUIKAG,Aug 25 2005, 09:51 AM

The new Avalon packs 280hp out of their V6 and overall are pretty quick going straight now. Wait till Lexus/Toyota redesigns their whole lineup with the new v6 theyre coming out with.

The Avalon has been tested at 5.9sec and around 98-99mph in the 1/4 mile.
Can't wait to see what the similar weight IS350 can do with another 26hp and a bigger contact and more favorable weight transfer.
Just looked the avalon has been re-rated at 268hp and 248-TQ. So if the IS350 stays with 306hp it's up 38hp or more than 12% than the avalon.

Well, with 280 hp the car simply needs to be under 3300 lbs to have the same power-to-weight ratio as the S2000.
The Avalon XL comes in at 3490 lbs, actually - so in theory it should be a tad slower than the S2000... As if the S2000 had only 227 hp - so about as fast as an RX-8.

Well, at least now instead of F20C vs. F22C arguments we (AP1 owners and '04-05 AP2 owners) can band together as a cohesive unit and flame the hell out of the '06+ owners for their wimpy ass 237HP models, logic be damned!

I test drove an Avalon two months ago. It handled like an Old Person's Mercury.

Toyota has them on their web site. They had the LS430 at least a month ago. They didn't shout it, but simply one day the numbers were corrected with no explanation.
The Sienna still has 230hp so maybe they only re-tested some models.
the matrix (hi-po) has 168hp (not sure if that was ever rated higher)
