How hard can a bike corner?
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how hard a typical sport bike can corner? How about a racing bike? I'm just wondering how it would compare to a car. I'm looking for numbers here (ie, 0.8g, 1.1g, etc, etc), but will settle for comparable cornering capabilities...

Here's an article that calculated a bike at almost 1.4 G's around a corner that a z06 was pulling just over 1 G. The rest of the feedback is interesting too if you want to compare cars v. bikes.

There's a big difference between track times and road times. The bike may arguably go harder on the track but there is no way you would even attempt to approach those times on the street, espec. on a road you hadn't ridden before.
By comparison, a car gives you a much larger margin for error in the event something does go wrong (decreasing radius turn, gravel on road, needd to brake or alter your line due to an obstacle, pothole etc.).
I'm a real pussy cat on the bike relative to how hard I drive the car. When I get out in the twisties I can blow off most riders quite easily too - they're not game to corner that hard - but of course they'll get me back as soon as it comes to a straight.
Still it's horses for courses, I love both my S2000 and my Bandit B12 and they each have their benefits.

A another advantage that a bike has over a car is the ability to take a straighter line due to the fact that the bike is physically smaller. Some S truns the bike may even be able to remain totally upright and accelerating while a car will have to negotiate that same series of corners.
