No, its real. Theres particles in the glass that once electrified, the particles align and cause the glass to be clear. If you "turn off" the electricity to the glass, it becomes "tinted." although it isnt a tint exactly. The particles just scatter and keep light from going through.

Ferrari used this in 2005 on the Ferrari 575 Superamerica - it had an electrochromic roof that would darken/lighten on command.

I remember seeing this years ago (2003-2004) at Disney World in the 'House of Tomorrow'. It was for the windows in the house. I figured it was only a matter of time before it made its way into cars.

So, $3000 to be able to lighten your tint. Which no one will ever do except when backing down a dark road. Sounds reasonable.
