J.D. Power marks Honda among top car brands
Wednesday June 7, 4:07 pm ET

J.D. Power and Associates ranked Honda Motor Company Ltd. among the top non-luxury car brands, along with Hyundai Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp.
In its annual Initial Quality Study, Honda's manufacturing plant in Japan, which produces the Acura RL, Acura TSX and Honda CR-V, tied for No. 3 in the Plant Quality Award in the Asian/Pacific region. Japan-based Toyota's (NYSE:TM - News) Japan plant was ranked No. 2. The company did not award a first place ranking in the category.

In an index calculating the number of problems per 100 vehicles, Honda's flagship line of cars and its Acura maintained above average figures. Honda had 110 problems per 100 vehicles, while Acura had 120. Problems include defects in design, new features and malfunctions.

Germany-based Porsche AG's flagship automobile had the lowest number of problems, with 91 per 100 vehicles, while Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford Motor Co.'s (NYSE:F - News) Land Rover had the most with 204.

J.D. Power studies vehicle design, features, defects and malfunctions from a consumer's perspective, measuring new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership.

Westlake Village, Calif.-based J.D. Power is an information services firm. Its Initial Quality Study is based on responses from millions of consumers. J.D. Power is a business unit of the New York-based McGraw-Hill Co.'s, (NYSE:MHP - News), which produces educational materials and supplies financial and business information services. It posted more than $6 billion in sales in 2005.

Japan-based Honda (NYSE:HMC - News) runs four plants in Ohio through its Honda of America Manufacturing Inc. subsidiary, three of them in Central Ohio.

Its Marysville car and motorcycle plants and its East Liberty auto plant employ about 8,600 workers, while its engine plant in Anna has 2,800 workers. About 800 workers make automatic transmissions at the factory in Russells Point.

The fact that Porsche had the lowest number of problems per 100 vehicles (with their 997 line I'm assuming) is surprising.

I'm a fanboi therefore I must defend my stance. ;) Take a look at Toyota and other (including American manufacturers) automakers and tell me how many sporty cars they have compared to Honda/Acura. ;)

[QUOTE=Green Tea,Jun 7 2006, 08:28 PM] gm: vette, tell me a car from honda/acura that can match that, camaro z28, sky redline
dodge: viper,
ford: ford GT, svt and eventually the gt500
toyota: supra, far more power and modability than the nsx/s2k

Honda only has 2 sport cars,

Green Tea 06-07-2006 09:47 PM

okay fan boi, lets break it down for you. I guess ricers like you raised by the civic generation can be pretty obnoxious? Resorting to insults on a message board shows you can't back up much of your fanboism. Safe to say you aren't all that smart?

tsx, the jetta gli is more sporty and is rated higher by most magazines
the tl competes against the a4, 3 series, lexus, etc and is rated lower than these cars.
the civic/si competes against the gti and is rated lower than the gti and a simple reflash and you'll dust the civic si.
the rl is a total flop
type r, what about it, its an overrated/overpriced pos car

maybe you should go back to temple of vtec, all you honda fanbois can talk about how great that overpriced 90k nsx is and how the increase in torque for the s2k will make it competitve till the next millenium. Tell me how well the nsx fairs against the vette, viper, and other companies sport cars?
