Manual Transmission Supra on the way
Iirc they also made standard the premium options, although I can't remember if it was made cheaper. Nonetheless, there was a performance hike announced in under a year.
Hence option for option the price difference is not as significant.
Also, is the weight numbers out yet? I can't imagine this car being light considering what the 370z weighed. Using history, comparing the 370z to the g37, one can deduce what the new z will weigh based on the q50. Not very encouraging.
Then the reason why people get hot and bothered about a v6tt is that they have fantasies about 2jz and rb26, or s55 engines but the reality is that it doesn't have a ton of easily accessible power. And I wonder what the heat management is going to be like, not exactly alot of q50 owners tracking these things.
So if it weighs what it does, and the potential is what it is, and Zs have a good not great reliability reputation without the durability mystique if a 2jz or rb powered car, it's going to have it's challenges vs the Supra with a manual, but also as history revealed the pony cars like the mustang GT, which you can get a mach1 and Whipple it to get insane numbers.
But that's no longer my thing, I'm happy with the twins, the Z when I expound on it more really isn't the bargain it's making itself out to be unless you want the barebones one. For that level of performance I'd want the lsd, suspension, brakes, cooling, which will bring it's price to a point I'd, perhaps unreasonably, want things like a premium seat. This isn't a Supra 3.0 for 10k+ off.
But that's my reasoning why I'm not buying it, not why I think it's a bad car. I think the car will be fine, a good buy for anyone it fits with and I have a soft spot for Z's. But I'm not nearly as excited about this car as I was when the first mustang s550s especially the gt350 were coming, or the twins then and now.
now...now I care.
Is Toyota back with a manual Supra AAAAAND that wicked new corolla. I always liked the new Supra- its quite a looker in person...but I hate 2 pedal cars. Hate...yes, hate.
I'm looking for less seats in my next car- my kids have nearly moved on and I don't need back seats...so, an off lease 3 year old manual shift supra? perhaps...
darcy

If the manual comes with the inline 6 it is really going to hurt the Z. The Supra is a newer chassis, really stout and proven drivetrain with lots of headroom, and not terribly more expensive than a Z. I also think it has bolder styling and makes the Z look a little more like a the refresh that it is.

Pretty sure there are a lot of people who will buy the Z simply because it's a Z.
