Jeep's hemi V8 gets you most of the way there for less than half that price and very similar styling (I like those wheels though).

I'm waiting for the GL63 AMG.

Actually, I'd rather have a G63... but doesn't seat 7 and only the G55 available at this time.
Haha, You know there going to do it too. Thats why I love Mercedes. They will make an AMG out of ANYTHING.

I haven't tried the GL, but it better be a major step over the ML, because that was a major disappointment. It looks like an X5 competitor, but is actually a mommy-mobile. Yes, it's true... mommies get around quick these days, but fast can still be boring.

As for the black one above, imo SUVs NEVER look good lowered, it just makes them look like minivans. Trucks should have balls, if you are going to do anything to it, give it a lift.

Total Pass. It reminds me of an 11/10s Pathfinder for some reason. Those wheels seem like they work at first glance, but I think if you stare at them for a few seconds, they start to not look so good. Not enough tire to make 'em look good IMO. I'd take a lowered Escalade on 20s or 22s over this, regardless of the speed difference.

I still don't get the obsession with 5000lb trucks that go fast. You're only going to win stoplight drags, and you can't track them (realistically). It can be argued you're wasting more cash buying this than an F430 or something.

This is the first gen GL. Your confusing this with the G-Class. That one is still in production.
Yeah, may very well be.

Between all the fast SUV, I'd so much rather have a Porsche Cayenne Turbo over all of them. It now comes with 500hp and traps 107mph in the 1/4mi (as fast, if not faster than, as a C5/NSX/E46 M3/966/etc.) and arrives to 150mph faster than those cars.

well the if you look/drive both the new ML and GL you'll find that they fell almost the same. They share a good amount of parts with each other...Hell they even have the same body code number.

And as far as the G class goes, I have really nothing good to say about them at all

I don't know why it's cool to have a fast 7 seater SUV?
I would much rather have more money in my wknd toy then spend $70k on a SUV that will be worth $35k in 3 years. Cayenne S are going for less than $50k at auction already. Turbo's will be there soon.

For eg, a friend of mine bought a 2004 Touraeg V8 for $24 last week at auction. Thats more than 60% loss in 3 years.

That's a pretty nice ride for an SUV, and I like the treatment pictured in the OP...

But I have to ask, and sorry to hijack the thread..

Why do people, predominantly BMW, Mercedes and occasionally Porsche owners, feel compelled to get a front license plate with the manufacturer's emblem on it?

I mean the emblem on the car is like 8 inches up. To me it'sa super-douche maneuver to add more signage flaunting your brand-pride.

"Yes, Capt Cool Guy, we know you bought a Beemer. You don't need to add another BMW emblem to the front just to drive the point home."

I'm done.
