New Car Mustang GT, Camaro, or older Shelby

I need to get a new car in the near future, I love my S2000 but need a back seat to put the kid in. I will keep the S2000 for a bit. I don't drive far or too much but the s2000 is kinda too tweaked out now for super long road trips and now there are three of us. I have three choices, a mustang gt vert, a camaro vert (not sure about when its going to be out) or sunroof or a older shelby gt500 which I can pick up a white 07 with 2k on it for around 38k. I want a V8 only and more of a good fast driving car that looks good. I don't need it right away so I could wait a bit if something good is coming out. Kinda been waiting on the 2011 stang 5.0 to see one.

Any thoughts?

all of those cars would be horrible to get a kid in and out of. get something with 4 doors. have you ever had to get a kid in and out of a car seat in a 2 door 4 seater? It's not fun. Also, both 'verts' you put up there would be huge letdown in terms of dynamics after the S2000. Get an evo.

Saki GT 04-29-2010 07:06 AM

I would get a used 2006-7 RX-8, or go for a true four door like a WRX, if you want a fun car to drive that also has four seats. Not sure how well a baby seat fits in an RX-8 though...

Revenge 04-29-2010 07:21 AM

I don't drive the kid everyday, and I have a ford explorer sport so I know about no 4th door.

Not intrested in the RX-8 not a fan of the roter engine

I will look into the WRX, not a bad idea, along with the mazdaspeed 3. I just wanted a big v8 this time since I got a strung out 4 banger already.

I'd definitely wait for the 2011 Mustangs if they're in any sort of consideration.

Get a used cts-v...for V8 power...

Car seats are gonna be a pain to get in and the passenger or driver depending on which the kid seats behind is gonna hate life....

But hey, from the list you have here I would go with the shelby....GL

get a lexus is 350 or isf if you can toyota reliable nice car ...

Saki GT 04-29-2010 08:26 AM

You can get a G8 GT for a great price. LS engine, four seats/doors, room, plus good looks.

I got a new Camaro while my Carrera was in the shop for 2 days. Fantastic looking car on the outside. Inside though it felt like I was sitting in a cave. The feeling of being closed in was pretty dramatic. I didn't get to drive it aggressively anywhere, but I had the feeling that nimble isn't its strong suit. As for the rear seats, check them out but I think they're almost as bad as the 911 in terms of usable legroom.

berlinablackie 04-29-2010 08:29 AM

Used M3 with v8? Not sure what $$ they get now a days.

Of the cars you list, my decision would be:
1> Shelby GT500
2> Mustang GT (2011 5.0 only)
3> WRX/MazdaSpeed 3
4> The RX-8 that you don't like
5> Camaro

My only hang up on the Camaro is its newness. I love its appearance and performance now, but its still new. I've liked every Camaro that comes to market, but they all become 'common' and look like pos in a few years. Just my opinion, but you asked. :)

Good Luck with your decision.

It's actually easy to get a child in/out of a car seat in a 2-door convertible, if you can drop the roof :D We did it with our 328Ci for a couple of weeks.

I can dig on wanting to keep the drop top experience but in a package that all three of us could take out.

I have owned 4 Mustangs and 3 S2000s. Now that I have kids I am in the same boat. I have already researched this.

My last mustang was 03 Cobra. Now this car was fast but interior sucked, handling sucked, ford crap, but fast as hell in a straight line if no wheel hop. I like the 07-10 GT500s but to heavy, you will notice the difference coming from a s2000. Plus if I get a GT500 it would be a 2011 since the interior is much better plus 100 lbs less in the nose.

Plus if you shop around, you can find 07 GT500s for low 30s. I found one for $32k with 4k miles.

At my age, I need a luxury car that is fast and less than 40k. I have decided on a 2006 M5 built after May 2006 because of SMG and Vanos issues. This is the best of both worlds including luxury. Still waiting on right color combo.

Plus my wife thinks I am to old for the S2000 and thinks its a kids car. lol

The Convertible Camaro is due out March 2011. I drove a v6 and it felt very underpowered. I'm sure the v8 is much better. Too bad there will be no z28 version though.

S2kRob 04-29-2010 09:08 AM

Definitely try the new 2011 GT. With some suspension mods, it'll handle quite well. And that new 5.0l motor is going to be truly epic.

QUIKAG 04-29-2010 09:16 AM

I second a Pontiac GT or GXP. 4 doors will be very helpful and you'll still get decent handling and V8 power in a nice overall package.

chilenny 04-29-2010 09:48 AM

Problem with the new GT the compression is to high and may not be able to handle boost.

NOt a good idea, my freind has his 2nd one. GM(acually the dealer) bought back one from him already due to the car being in the shop more than in his possesion. The 2nd one has only been in the shop 2 times in the last 6 weeks since getting the replacement. The CTS-V is badass but not reliable

Did not know that..Thanks!

Well the Pontiac, if you can find a decent one -though it shouldn't be too hard- is still a viable option!

1st or 2nd gen? What are the problems?

Disgustipated 04-29-2010 02:19 PM

WRX or Evo. Both are pure joy.

How is the clutch on the 07, I am gonna need something a bit less spastic than the s2000 stage 4. Can you say on off on off.

brockLT1 04-29-2010 08:11 PM

the gto has a HUGE back seat, but it is very slow moving as it can only be moved eletrically

rockville 04-29-2010 08:38 PM

I assume you mean the seat back which must be moved forward to get to the back seat (kind of like the G35 coupe). As your sentence reads you could mean that the GTO is powered by an electric motor and moves slowly ;)
