Default Penske Buys Saturn!

I know there was an "Penske Eyes Saturn" post about a month ago, apparently it's a go according to CNN.

Kind of cool. I think.

What a dumb thing to say. Saturn got the best new product over the past 2 years from GM and is in good shape as a dealer network - the dealerships are new like Japanese dealerships as the brand is only 25 years old. Penske owning Saturn should be interesting since he's so sport-oriented.

If the deal goes through, thats 350 national dealerships and 13,000 jobs. The new Saturn would buy GM and Renault product.

I know I was thinking a Penske special edition Sky would be amazing! This will also be an interesting model for potential sales of other business units or even single models (looking at you Corvette).

Saturn is a great option since it's so incredibly self-contained (I chat with people all the time that don't even realize Saturn is a GM brand).

According to the WSJ article, the Sky is not going to be sold under a Penske Saturn.

I've driven a couple of the new Saturn vehicles and I can honestly say I would gladly own either the Aura, Vue or the Sky. For the price, they are very well built vehicles with very solid aesthetics both inside and out. No rattles, no gigantic gaps between panels on the interior, overall seemingly very well built cars...

Good for Saturn, they really do have a great line up, I hope they do well.

All I have to say about it, is that they are the importer of Smart cars into the US. And the start-up of that was a total cluster F in the beginning.

a dumb thing to say?

that's weird, I think I have to disagree

JD power is obviously not the all knowing knower, but I think it is worth mentioning if you going to start calling people dumb.
It seems Saturn's in the bottom half of every one of these list

JD power dependability

wow, almost bottom for initial quality

and what are you talking about best new product from GM?

my point being, ok, disagree, but don't call people dumb.

How's this work?

"Penske [...] will take over the brands, trademarks, service and parts operations and distribution operations related to the Saturn."

So not manufacturing? Are not the dealerships, since they're independently owned? If GM stops actually making the cars, is Penske SOL? I don't understand what exactly he's purchased, and how he'll make it work.

I was wondering that as well

but he mentioned something about saturn being lean, and that is usually a manufacturing buzz word so?
