Default porsche boxster?

are the porsche boxster's any good? I mean as far as reliability, mechanically? Theyre nice cars imo. The prices arent bad either for a boxster...im thinkin' of getting one. Just dont know if its a reliable car...any of you guys have experience with this car? or have owned one or know anyone that has?

the boxster's are very nice roadsters, except for the base ones. i have no desire to own a boxster, but a boxster S is a different story. not sure on reliability. sure someone will chime in.

Reliability is fine. I have owned Porsche before & very little maintenance issues. Just bring it in once a year (synthetic oil) & service it. Though I would stay away from the base Boxster just because of the lack of hp & 5 speed stick (vs. 6 speed for everything slse).

Only boxster reliablity problems I know of (and the only boxster owner I know of) had something to do with a blown engine and blue smoke. Never really did get the details on it. Just remember conversation that it was very expensive to get fixed because the motor was so hard to get at.

I only know of 1 broken engine on a basic Boxster too...

New model basic Boxster is quite good performance wise and is not in the same 'too slow for a Porsche' league as the old ones.

Reliability seems OK to me, visit to the dealer is costly, parts are costly...

True for the 986 Boxster, but the latest 987 has a better power-to-weight ratio than the S2000, makes 25% more torque at lower rpm, and can get the 6-speed transmission as an option (albeit a pricey one).

What kept me from buying one is that however reliable they may be, the thought of paying Porsche service costs should something go wrong was enough to scare my tiny little budget over to Honda.

They have problems with the rear main seals, but they're pretty good reliability wise.

Doesn't a new base Boxster have as much or more HP than an S2000 (240-250ish) and more torque?
