The 1 series fell a little short of my expectations as well but be realistic...

I'd still take a 37k 1 series (sport package only) over a 35k Sti, but I'm still trying find better ways to spend 40k than either (leaning towards a Z4 Coupe 3.0si with the $6500 cash back incentive or used Lotus Elise).

ITR is my homeboy!! I'd take the 1series at 37k too. Not to mention it will bitch slap a 48k E46 M3 from just about any speed. :D Subaru softened and refined the car along with Mitsu and their Evo. I think they forgot that people didnt want that for this rally car. BMW HAD to make it refined out the gate. I mean damn if they do, damn if they dont.

Some people are really funny.

Haha, onehots2k, don't get too excited. I was just saying that between these two cars, the 1 series would be my choice.

I'm one of the few odd balls who would have preferred a higher revving I-6 rather than the turbo I-6 in the 1.

If I was in charge, the 1 would have weighed another 200 lbs less, had a lower roofline (I blame much of the oddness of the looks on how tall the car is), and had a 270 hp version of the 255 hp motor in the Z4 3.0Si, and started at $32,500 with destination. This way, there would be more of a difference between the 3 series and 1 series, and there would be room for a 330 hp M1.

To me, the reason why it doesn't weigh much less and dynamically doesn't seem much better than the 335 is BECAUSE it shares an engine with the 335 and they had to make sure the 335/E46 M3 wasn't completely overshadowed (same as the Cayman S vs. base 911).

But I digress. It still seems like a nice car, and I respect your decision to buy one.

Wow. You must not have driven a 335i. Honestly, here are my performance estimates. 0-60mph in 4.6seconds Quartermile: 13.2sec Slalom: 70mph.. we'll see how close I am. I'm of the firm belief that the 135i's performance will match or exceed the EVO and STI's in the dry. And thats without the aid of the half-a-dozen systems these rally rockets have.

If the pricing is not too outrageous I wouldnt mind upgrading to a lighter more perfomance orientated 1series. My decision for it over the rally cars is the refinement. Its nice to switch it up...i'll be back to raw sometime...

Can't outrun ugly.

But the question is, can you outrun 9 years old and slower than the original for more money.

That's a good bit of money. I wonder what's going to happen? I wonder if they will sell or if they will be like the MS6 which didn't sell well and needed steep discounts.

IMHO it'd be better for them to sell at a loss or very low profit and have people talking about how it's a great value and waiting lists (etc..) rather than have too high price and then having them sit on the lots and/or need $4K discounts to sell.
