Phew. Thank goodness the two cars I own are the 1994 and the 2000 Acura Integra. I'm pretty sure I'm safe.

mattb1 08-02-2006 12:48 PM

This is exactly why I sold my GSR. There was no way I could afford to just be without a car one morning b/c of some jackass thief.

Slamnasty 08-02-2006 12:51 PM

So the lesson is...buy a 94 or 00 Integra. :D

Purple_sky 08-02-2006 12:58 PM

BMW M roadster tops the list? I hardly ever see that car on the road, let alone topping any list that has to do with quantity.

Oh, thank God, Camry no longer makes the list. It used to be very popular (for parts and stuff).

Maybe you never see it on the road cause it's always stolen...

You're right though... you really don't see them around.

This list was compiled by using the highest percentage stolen for cars of a certain model as compared to the number registered, not by sheer volume.

If it was sheer volume, America's best sellers (Accord/Camry) would be on the list most definitely.

Ah, that answers my question. I was going to posit that the 94 and 00 years were numbers 11 and 12, but I see I was only half right. ;)

Penforhire 08-02-2006 02:56 PM

Yeah, I figure 1-out-of-200 makes a half-dozen or so total M-Roadsters stolen. :)

Apak25 08-02-2006 11:30 PM

jeez.. wasn't it like just a year ago where suv's and trucks topped the list?

CalBear 08-03-2006 02:41 AM

Wheww Whoooo!!! My (former) car made #5!

Yep, it was stolen, right in front of my apartment building.

MDXLuvr 08-03-2006 03:13 AM

"Surprisingly, the cost of fuel has not affected the popularity of the large SUV among car thieves. The full-size SUV segment remains the most stolen segment, including such vehicles as the Cadillac Escalade and the Land Rover Range Rover. "

What, no imobilizer on Acuras in the 90's?????

Countnkick 08-03-2006 07:26 AM

Actually, my wife's former car ('89 Accord) was broken into three times ... fortunately they only stole stuff out of it and not the entire vehicle. It seems that the windows on that car rolled up against the outside of the seal rather than between 2 layers as I've seen on other cars, which made it easy to slip a slim-jim or coat hangar behind the glass and access the lock. I wonder if the Integra's used that same design?

The Integra was not equipped with an immobilizer prior to model year 2000. The immobilizer makes the vehicle harder to steal, but is hardly stealproof; considering the 00 and 01 Integra are also on the Top Stolen Cars List.

I guess it's a good thing that I have an automatic integra SE, instead of a GSR!

nivek2002 08-03-2006 08:25 AM

I fear for my GSR's life everyday. I need to install a hidden fuel shutoff switch asap.

And chain it to a post...how many of those thefts were as a result of a towtruck/flatbed?

He'd probably be better bringing a pair of boots with him everywhere he went. That, or knifing the tires like that one beer commercial...

s2000owner 08-03-2006 09:52 AM

You forget.. They arent going to look at the year before they steal it, it just so happens to be that year...

Lice Locket 08-03-2006 04:00 PM

Its like this every year... Integras engines are a tuner's dream, and they don't come cheap! Plus, stolen cars parted out is more profitable and harder to track (I read somewhere that a $10k kbb value car can be harvested for about $30k)

curiouz_G 08-03-2006 05:05 PM

well now with the release of the K series motors(k20a2, k20a3, k23a2), i believe the list will change shortly. They're the new B series motors. Not only do they perform better but they are crazy expensive. And alot of people that own 7thgen Civics go crazy buying Type S parts.

You know what, I read something about this too. There was this idea that Honda changed the car's name from Integra to RSX because they believed it would deter the theft of the DC5s... and it worked for the first few years! BUT, now, RSX-S are stolen and is climbing, for the same reasons as its predecessors; engines.

Christople 08-03-2006 09:48 PM

I wonder if I part my car out if I would get more money that way than selling it whole.

CuOnGeE 08-04-2006 11:45 PM

it has integra written all over it but soon the rsx for the k20 series

SFMarine0331 08-05-2006 12:20 PM

why are the integras so highly targeted? A friend of mine has a gsr i feel sorry for him lol

CuOnGeE 08-05-2006 01:21 PM

because there very easy to steal
