Toyota emblem.
Been wondering what the Toyota emblem represents, or what the figure within the emblem is of. Looks like a Mexican hat to me.
I've never bothered to ask anyone, but now I suddenly remembered it.

Look at the emblem at the left-hand upper corner, I just don't see a T, but a head wearing a cowboy-type hat.

Well, if you were to ask Toyota's marketing dept., they might say something like this:
The two rings inside a larger ellipse are meant to imply a relationship between the physical and the imaginary world around us. The top inner ellipse, with its horizontal attitude, suggests a community or close group of people...friends really, all joined in achieving the goals of superior vehicle creation laid out by Toyota's visionary president. The vertically-oriented ellipse signifies our dedication to higher standards of engineering, and also suggests the shape of an engineer's calipers. The two ellipses linked together, create a unity of engineering and market goals, inside the greater ellipse, which signifies the greater world community.
Here's my personal formula:
The old angular T logo from the 70s and 80s looked pretty musty and esoteric, so they needed to update it to fit more modern sentiments and pleasing forms.
How's that?

Recent logo changes that were improvements:
Mazda: from some kinda spore-lookin thang to a stylized and sexy flowing M
Nissan: from an anorexic ring and name bar to a more chiseled, more refined, bold nameplate
