Rob, you must be thinking of the wrong car. Those pics are of the preproduction press cars.

Last time I checked, the S55 AMG had 493 HP...

But in truth makes more like 550bhp. There's no way the 'lesser' E-Class makes more than the granddaddy S55...

Anyway, word is that Mercedes is making a built-to-order SL65 AMG, with the twin-turbo 6.1 V-12 as in the S600, but tweaked even further for 700bhp and an unGodly amount of torque, I'm sure.

Straight-line speed, maybe not, but who the **** needs to go 241mph? 220 is fast enough for me for a production car.
I prefer the F1 more than the new MB SLR, I do not like big engines 6.0L with turbo, look like a easy way to get HP & TQ, if you are paying $400.000 you should have a Superb NA. The execption could be the EB110, 3.5L 4 trubos, 5 valves.........

The F1 also has a very good handling not just straight-line speed machine.... it is a $1.000.000 car!!!

F1, EB100S and Carreta GT are for me the best cars

Not to sound like a jerk, but the SLR is actually powered by a 5.5 liter Supercharged V-8, which is found in a lot of other AMG cars but only making 493 hp. I'm personally a fan of the engine. For some reason I feel the supercharger on a V-8 gives it more character (for a German car ). Also, the exhaust note on the SL55 sounds absolutely amazing, so the SLR will probably be just as good.

P.S. Does anyone know what kind of supercharger is used on this engine? I think it's a screw type, but I'm not sure...

600hp is 600hp is 600hp, either way you look at it. Whichever path the engine builder takes, 600hp is not easy to come by.

With that said, the F1 is the daily-driveable superdupercar. I honestly doubt it can touch the Porsche or Ferrari. And just because it sticker'd at US$1mn doesn't mean shit. For a fraction of the cost, the Saleen S7 will kick its ass (if not, it'll stay right with it, in any performance test).
