Why order awd in warm weather states?

Not that I see 911s every day but today I happened across two separate 997 C4S cabrios. I can't imagine why someone would buy a slower, heavier and more expensive version when its used in an area that's 500 miles from snow... especially since they were hardly optioned out. I'd much rather those bomb ass carbon fiber buckets and a host of other Porsche exclusive options... ideas?

Hmmmm... DD cars in an area where it rains frequently? Perhaps the cars were discounted because nobody was buying them?

Some people enjoy awd sports cars? Maybe they drive them in the rain as well as the shine and appreciate a bit more stability? They are not really slower... Florida is all flat and the roads are all straight, right? Maybe they wanted superior launch for drag racing?

Could also be a racing preference as well if they happen to track it once in awhile.

To me, the C4S looks a bit better than the 997 and 997S. It shares the same wide stance as the turbo, which is also AWD.

The only thing I can think of is the wider body style like the Turbo. On the track, nah, extra weight is never fun and a regular 911 doesn't put down the kind of power where I'd think AWD would be worth it.

And if something as stupid as rain is a point of consideration for "hmmm, maybe I should have AWD," then I think that person is f-king worthless as a driver.

You're in Florida. Who's from Florida? It seems like at least every 2nd or 3rd person you meet in Florida is a cold weather transplant. Maybe they brought them with them when they moved? Maybe old habits die hard? Maybe they want to be able to drive them back up north to show them off? maybe they just like the style. Maybe they are just goofy...

C2s > C4s...

911's in the wrong hands can be tail happy as you probably have heard. I suppose some people want the extra idiot proofing so they don't hit a telephone pole.

I probably would even if that made people think I was a horrible driver. I would not care though. I have had a ride with a professional race car driver that made me giggle and crap my pants at the same time. I know I was not as good as he was, not even close so I will take the safety factor and open casket funeral.

AWD definitely comes in handy during the summer here. My STI was a beast in the rain!
