[QUOTE=bahula03,May 26 2007, 12:15 PM] to get slightly off topic, lets not confuse issues here. The NSX didn't sell terribily well initially because a Japanese car at that price/performance level was unheard of.

the vette has what 50 YEARS of name brand status in the US. the C5 set bench marks in bang for buck perofmance and handling, the the C6 has proven to be more than enough to hang the ithe 911s.

nissans got what 35 yrs in the US. and the Skyline GTR is only famous with the playstation gen.

when you ask the average joe with 50-80k to spend on a sports car, your not going to get to many that will mention Nissan.
I agree 100% I'm a part of that "playstation gen" And talk among many of us is that this car should be amazing, BUT if we had the 50-80k, were probably going elsewhere.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but if I was to purchase a car for this price I'd rather have one from Japan as I tend to believe it would be more reliable than its' German counterpart. I'm much more interested in this GT-R and the new NSX than any German sports cars in the same price point.

At around $60K, I don't think they'd have a problem selling it. I would certainly buy this over an M3 or Boxster.

The NSX did sell OK at first. They sold 3000 units first year in the US but dropped off after that. I just want to correct people who thnk it only sold a few hundred per year.

Also $65K in 91 would be over $100K in todays dollars.

NSX US sales numbers

Also if you take todays $65K (projected) GTR and what that $65K would have been back in 1990 was around $40K so there were cars like the 300 TT, RX-7 and Supra that were around that price back then, but it's true they didn't sell well towards the end, but to be fair they didn't evolve like the corvette, 911, F-V8s etc have over the past 20 years.

the prob is its a Nissan. people think of altimas when they think of nissan. not a 94k sports car. it will sell but i doubt much just like NSX. only enthusiast and people who are really into cars. that a very little market.
Isn't that true for Honda and Toyota as well? Americans think a fast HOnda is a riced up Civic. Most Americans have no idea what an s2000 is! If these cars come out in the US they will boost the image of Nissan. Also, I'm sure when the 480-570 hp GTR, LF-A, and NSX come out Americans will see Japanese cars competitive against Porsches and Ferraris.

of course it will boost image of nissan but ask majority of people will they pay for a 94k nissan. most of them would probably say no and if they had the money they rather get like a bmw or porsche. lexus so far is most successfull japanese company to sell cars at 40k+. they already have their reputation built up, Nissan hasn't. most people probably know in terms of performance that japanese cars are competitive but they rather have the European luxury and the name brand that goes along with it. Honda is getting their but majority of people still rather take a 3 series or 5 series over a TL or RL.

im not saying its not worth it or etc etc. im just making an observation that it will probably not sell greatly.

On the spy vids of Nurburgring it isn't even keeping up a 996TT. Base model needs to outperform every new car at it's price point, and the 96k every car at it's pricepoint to compete. This means, if the evo doesn't offer performance better than a C6 Z06, it'll flop, IMO. Base model needs to outperform a base C6 to succeed.

Let's not forget the new Evo/Sti as well. Car needs to offer similar bang/buck to do well.

That is false. In some videos, it runs ahead of the 997TT, in others, it runs behind. They were more like studying instead of outright competing. Regardless, it'll be a great performance machine. I'm still not digging the looks that much, but need to see it in person.
